What exactly is the definition of an NT here. DO you guys use it to describe someone who does not have AS or does it mean someone who is "normal".

I'm interested in its usage as well.

Here, since I don't have AS, I tend to think of myself as sorta NT or a quisa NT.

On the learning disability boards I freqeunt, the other parents consider me non-NT (as I have disgraphia).

NTism is in the eye of the beholder perhaps?

Its nuerotypical. So here it generally one who is normal in at least how they deal with stress and are not impaired in social interaction. So normal. Though normal like autism is on a spectrum.

Main Entry: neurotypical
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: pertaining to autistic persons whose neurological development and function is within the normal range; also called neurologically typical

I think here, it just means normal people, "neurologically typical".

I have heard autists refer to Down Syndrome people as NTs, which is misleading because they aren't neurologically typical. So some people use 'NT' to mean 'not autists'.

People with Down Syndrome, for the most part, are NT's. There's jus a part or two of their brain that's not working properly. Socially, they're NT.

Continuing, NT is used to mean non-autistic here because it fits well. Anyone here who isn't AS is most likely NT by previous definition. A person with Down Syndrome has no reason for posting here. Or a psychopath, now that I think about it. And so, unless someone specifies, if we say their NT, that most likely means that they don't have AS, and are in general, a normal person.

Hope that was a better explanation. :D

Although I have AS, I still think it is unfair to classify people with Down Syndrome as NT. HOwever, with psychopaths I say they are still NTs. That way they have all the killers!

IMO Psychopaths and sociopaths are extreme forms of NTs.

I don't like NT-bashing and the use of the term in a derogatory way. Its a big jump from using the term to define those not on the spectrum as 'typical', as a way of differentiating their characteristics from 'ours', to making insulting remarks, stereotyping, and demonising 99% of the population.
Just thought I'd mention it here, as I have noted a tendency for such comments and topics to appear on the forums recently. Maybe a good 'acid test' would be to replace the term 'NT' with 'black', 'Jewish', or maybe even 'autistic' when reviewing the post before submitting it.

I am sorry. I should not actually bash NTs. I try not to. Although I am bullied by NTs all of my friends are NTs as well. Some NTs suck while most rock. That is the case of society. Only a few really bad eggs.

How true. I've even met people who I don't like and who most likely have AS too. Being NT or have AS doesn't have anything to do with being a good or bad person. I hate NT bashing!

You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. There is nothing about the neurological differences of the Autistic brain that prevents a person from also having a mental ilness.

Actually I made a mistake with my post. I forgot to mention that two of my friends are Aspies as well. The problem with quite a few NTs at my school in my year is they do not know that I have AS and even if they did they would not have the brain power to understand it or accept it and carry on dragging their knuckles on the floor. I am bullied generally because of the symptoms of Asperger's and because I am one of the intellectuals.

My friends who do not know I have AS just accept my behaviour as they think it is kind of amusing and act in a similar fashion. Those who know about my AS generally accept it, but it is really only four of my friends (who do not have AS) who do not act in a way that is likely to offend me because of the fact that they have known me for longer.
