I bought a Wii U. I felt it was too early to even consider a PS4 or XB1. They're still too expensive and the games aren't really there. No console should ever be bought in its first year for those reasons. There hasn't been a console that was worth buying in the first year since the Dreamcast.
The gaming press seems to have a major grudge against the Wii U, posting articles daily about how it has no good games and it isn't selling well and it's totally doomed to fail and Nintendo should get out of the aware business, etc, etc. And yet I've been enjoying the hell out of Lego City Undercover, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, Mario Kart 8, and Rayman Legends.
Just get whatever's got the games you want. Systems aren't great; games are.
the 360 was nice in '06'07.
fear, gears of war, oblivion, condemned is okay, hitman, lost planet.
gamecube had luigi's mansion, star fox, metroid, mario kart, splinter cell.
Honestly, though, if I had o choose, it'd probably be a PS4, as I don't have a proper PC, and also the Last of Us.
The Wii U can be had for pretty cheap so I shouldn't have to decide between them.
