HELP! I Think I'm about to shut down and have a meltdown! I can't find a bottle of coke with my name on it. Im obsessed about drinking a bottle of coke with my name on it because I heard on the radio that it will be more magical then the coke name its self. I went to three different gas stations and four different Walmarts but still couldn't find it. I hate Walmart by the way because I get overwelmed in large crowds. I have already shut down. I'm surprised im at least "un-shutdown" enough to post this on wrongplanet but I feel like it won't be much longer until I have a fullfledged meltdown. I'm really jonesing on some coke right now but I will not have any unless I find a bottle with my name on it.

Well damn have you checked online? That might be a silly idea but maybe you can order one with your name on it or something.

That said not so sure I'd be able to find one with my name on it either, and quite certain my brother won't find one with his name....but though Coke is way better than Pepsi Mountain Dew is my thing.

Its a very poor reason to get upset. Forget the can, and work on why something like that can affect you unreasonably.

Ironically, someone shared this pic in my fb newsfeed just now:

As for the situation.. I agree w/ Toy_Soldier, it's a very poor reason to get upset & it would be good to work on coping mechanisms or strategies to use when you find yourself getting upset. Maybe give meditation a try?

If it's any consolation, I had a can of coke with my name on it and I had the shittest day of my life so far.

Get one with someone else's name on. Someone who you know likes you or who you might like. You'll have a much better day.

I found my husband's name on a coke and surprised him. Made his day.

WTF?

I live in Canada - all it says on a Coke can here is "Coke".

You guys have custom coke cans or something down there?

Cans of coke have people's names on them?

Yeah, they're having some promotion where all the Coke cans and bottles have a name on them -- Amber and Brittany and Taylor and Josh and so forth....Some just say Family or Friends or BFF

This sounds to me like the kind of meltdown you should try to just sleep off.

Forget about that poison and the equally poisonous advertizing that's got you all revved up.

btw, don't forget that WATER IS AMAZING!! :geek:

I would ignore some of the other comments here. Finding a coke can with your name is obviously important to you, all people on the spectrum get strange hang ups! I once obsessed over putting a lid on boiling rice (I wasn't even cooking), when I couldn't, a stopped talking and walked off for ages.

I would look online, that seemed like a very good idea. Otherwise....ask friends to look out for it? I will add, from my experience it isn't more magical when it has your name on it, but hey, maybe it will be for you. Stay calm, breath, try to relax and check the internet.

Hope this helps

I hate my name so don't want to really buy a coke with my name on it. But I would like to buy four cokes, one with my mum's name, my dad's name, my brother's name and my name, and then take a picture of all four (unopened) and post it on Facebook. I have seen others do that on Facebook. But I can't stand there searching for all four names in a shop because people keep coming up from behind me and wanting to get where I'm standing, and then I lose concentration and get irritable with people. I'd rather buy all four in one go, because if I buy them one by one it could be weeks til I get all four and I would be having to urge to drink them and throw the bottles away (I don't like empty bottles laying about).

I think it's a sneaky tactic of the big company to make you buy their product. I've seen my colleagues buy a can of Coke just because there was someone's name printed on it. I thought it was silly to buy it for that reason. I guess people have different opinions but that's mine. Why is it so important to find a can with your name on it? There doesn't seem to be any practical/rational reason for needing to find one so badly.

How does one sleep off a meltdown exactly?....lol if I am having a meltdown, or anxiety crisis or anything like that.......the last thing I am able to do is lay down and sleep.

Fun fact, you are on a site full of people with autism.....since when do we only have meltdowns/upsets for practical/rational reasons? I mean it would be like telling a stoner 'your pipe breaking is no reason to get upset' well to the stoner it is. Perhaps the OP likes to drink coke, got stuck on how it would be cool to get one with their name on it and is upset over not finding it and due to autism its become more of a meltdown..I remember when I was a kid and we had school assemblies there would be someone showing us something or whatever or doing some magic trick or whatever the hell and would need a volunteer from the audience I had very upset feelings about being the person that never got picked from the audience. I also once had a meltdown at a young age because I was having a book read to me and some other kids at a library or school or something and the way they read it bothered me so I totally flipped out....don't know how long it took for my mom to calm me.

That said it is good to have skills to cope with meltdowns and getting upset, but no ones perfect so those aren't always going to be infallible.

I know, that's why I said "try." :)

The trick is to just put yourself where you can sleep, wearing something you can sleep in, and (for me, anyway) to block out as much noise and light as possible. Then just try to sleep. Even if you don't fall asleep, this will help you calm down. Try it, if you don't believe me. :)

Truth, though? As an adult, I use cannabis to put me to sleep when I'm like that. My entire childhood and adolescence, though, could be pretty accurately described as a string of almost continuous meltdowns that I couldn't sleep off and which kept building on each other.

Learning to sleep is the single thing that has helped me the most in my adulthood. I choose cannabis as my sleep-drug-of-choice because the side effects are less than prescription sleeping pills, and over-the-counter or herbal remedies never worked for me.

I really don't advocate drug-use for helping with sleep except in extreme cases, though. You'll get higher quality sleep if you can learn to sleep without drugs, and drug addictions are really extremely not fun. :)
