A close friend has recently told me that he is schizophrenic. This has worried me greatly and I'm not sure how to proceed.
As a background, I have known him for several years, and he has always had odd behaviours and mental health issues, but until recently they just got worse and worse (a broken home and bullying contributed to this). He became severely depressed in spring, suffering from self-harm compulsions, and in early May attempted suicide. He mentioned paranoid beliefs a few times, and often can't seem to think properly e.g. can't follow a train of thought. He has had problems controlling his behaviour. He has been known to take drugs in the past. He was since referred to a mental health service, and was a while ago diagnosed (but only told me today). He does seem to be recovering, hopefully. The stuff he has done is very worrying and upsetting, and I have myself developed depression over his suicide attempt.
So, what can I do to help him?
