when I was nine and my sister four, my mother took us for a walk, and a five year old girl told my mother she's trying to go home, and a big dog is bothering her. so my mother went with us in a long narrow path, and a German Shepherd ran at us, barking and showing its teeth, it jumped left and right as if looking for the right angle to attack. my mother threw rocks at it, and it ran away.

My cat attacked me like crazy when I shoved antibiotic down its throat. it was a huge male cat. extremely strong.

I've been bitten by dogs. I've never been "assaulted" by a strange animal--but I've had my cats scratch me when they feel displeasure with something

My neighbor great pyrenees dog bite me when I was 11 year old. I was talking with the neighbor when other neighbors dog (a mutt called "Bobek" - after "Stinky" from Moomins, the name fit it perfectly, it was constantly running away and causing trouble) jumped at us and started barking and attacking. The great pyrenees was patient for a while but eventually got pissed off and attacked Bobek. But Bobek hide behind me and my leg got bitten instead. I remember I run away in a shock.

I still have scar after the incident.

Other incidents are not really worth mentioning. I was attacked by dogs quite often when returning from school since people here don't care much when their dogs escape and walk freely. But there is a easy way to get rid of a barking/attacking dog. You pretend you throw something at it and it runs away. It might come back but you do the move again and it backs off. As long as you watch the dog carefully and pretend to throw a stone when it gets too close the dog will be afraid to come close enough to bite you.

Also my cats attacked me many times. Most of them were just aggressive plays. I often end up with scratches when I play with my cats but I don't care much - I have fun and they have fun so a little scratch is not much of a deal. Sometimes I don't even realize I was scratched before I see I am bleeding.
But I got hurt by my cat pretty badly once. I was holding it in my hands and my mom surprisingly turned on hairdryer next to us. My arm got scrambled pretty badly. But I was not angry. The cat was scared and I was holding it. Not its fault.

Yes, a small dog did--I kicked it in the mouth after it jumped at me and it ran away.

Many times. I've had dogs try to bite (I usually see it coming and move the body part before they can reach it, I'm really good at predicting dog's behavior), been kicked by a horse (and bitten and stepped on), scratched by cats (not just in play, sometimes I was trying to give them medical attention and it hurt). I've also been bitten by donkeys, attacked by a nasty old turkey (he was trying to protect his girlfriend, so he would attack me every time I entered his pen to feed or clean), emu, I've had cows headbutt me (though, I've never figured out if that was *supposed* to be aggressive). There are probably others.

Most of these I've never held against the animal though, they were just trying to communicate and didn't have words. The exception being the kick from the one horse, he meant it I'm pretty sure.

When I was eight, my family went on a day trip to a small island off the North coast called Rathlin. On part of the trip, we were at the ruins of an old church and I was casually leaning against a wall - minding my own business - when I looked beside me to find a massive ram with ragged horns staring malevolently right back at me.

Needles to say - almost immediately after noticing the ram - I sprinted like the hammers for our car, while it gave chase. After about 15 yards though, the ram stopped following. As wild as it had seemed to me, it appeared to have been trained to stay within a set of white lines that had been painted onto the grass. Funny how it was trained to do that but not trained to be friendly lol

n.b. I was originally just gonna put "I once got chased by a ram", but inspired by a certain relatives hour long telling of a story that happened at the local chinese - which I would have told in one line - I felt compelled to see how much I could flesh it out :P (not quite an hour's worth, granted)

When I was about 14, I had a big black Lab grab my leg while I was riding my bike. He let go, but it still broke the skin.

I was chased, sometimes bitten by dogs growing up. Had a pack of wild dogs chase me into the ocean once when I was 20. I was afraid of dogs then but made a effort to learn about them and overcome the fear. It worked to a great extent and I basically love dogs now. Have 4!

When I was about 8, a dog mauled my hand----and then, when I was an adult, a cat mauled the SAME hand. (Even though I've had cats all-of-my-life, I'm allergic to them, and I was on a mobile IV for 2 weeks.) Like another poster said, I never held it against the animals cuz they were just protecting themselves.

oh waw, i remember going to the bird refuge by the beach when i was 12 or 13 and being stupid and a goose got mad and almost attacked me. or at least, i think that's what happened. he/she was about to, but i backed off.

other than that, no, nothing really significant, just displays of self-defense. innumerable hamster bites (been keeping them since i was 7) once with a white dwarf hamster, i was letting my sister hold him and i warned her to be careful, since he could bite, but she rudely brushed me off and whaddya know - he bit her on the nose and wouldn't let go, he was DANGLING! she apologized and hugged me for not listening, of course.

another hamster bite more recently, when i was reaching for carlton in his cage, cage aggression kicked in and he swiftly chomped my index finger and my unconscious reflex was so strong, he was flung against the side of the cage and crashed against it. i felt so terrible. :(

my AUNT bit me when i was like, 4 in retaliation for me biting my baby sister. very hard. i remember going for a psych evaluation or something later when i was around 12 and the report said, among other interesting things, "appears to have been bitten". that may have been from something else but if so, i don't recall.

bitten (scar looks like a very pronounced wrinkle) just above the lip by a dog that was objecting to me kissing her on the head. i misinterpreted her warning growl as a sign of pleasure. later learned she had an ear infection and was protecting her sore spot.

my cat will bite and scratch me if i try to pet his belly, so i avoid that.

I don't think I've ever been majorly attacked by an animal before, but I have had some weird & interesting experiences with a few different ones ...
When I was 2 years old, my hamster bit the middle of my hand for some strange reason, and there was blood all over my hand. Another time was when I was 13 or 14 at the Renaissance Faire (close to the city of Los Angeles). I got kicked in the knee, twice, by a goat and a llama. :| That was highly unfortunate; must've been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
