Interesting. I have a hypothesis that if we shift to certain "meditative" brain activity, a part of our brains that helps interpret social cues (in the posterior cingulate cortex) works a little more efficiently. I've observed it in myself (posted here: http://wrongplanet.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=287387) but I'm still thinking about it. This guy's experience seems similar to mine in that way.
