I recently ran into , on a board not about Aspergers/AS , the phrase " 'sperg " used as a dimunitive (obviously) of Aspergers' , and put-downish , as " He sounds like a 'sperg " , that's an exact quote of what was posted there .
Anyone else ever run into this before ?

I think "sperg" is a word for a aspie throwing a tantrum.

"Sperg" is always a slur for AS people, unlike "Aspie," which can be a term of endearment or a slur depending on the context.

It's a derogatory term for an asperger, but I use it myself. It's called reappropriation, kind of how the term Yankee went from being a negative term to become a (for some) positive nickname.

Personally, I think the word "sperg" just sounds funny, but recognise most people probably don't and that it's meant as an insult.

Okay , that's a pun on what phrase for Bronx Bombers fans ?
Or perhaps my " Aspie literalness/inability-to-get-a-joke " finally , belatedly , manifests itsef ?

It actually sort of sounds cool though. I mean you know how people who like star trek are called Trekkies? what if WP was an actual alien planet and all the inhabitants were called Spergians or something like some sort of cool alien race.

....."sperg"?

It sounds like some sort of sound effect to me.

I've never heard it from anyone before.

I don't care if it's a slur, since I'm sure anyways that it's not, exactly...

We might as well espouse the bad-PR-is-still-PR doublethink.

I see it used on the nastier parts of the web i go to, but it's just way too inherently funny of a word to me that it's impossible for me to take it seriously.
