Wrong Planet is a non-profit website and is ad-supported. Those ads are indeed BS, but one often has to make sacrifices in life.

Unfortunately, no, you cannot.

ALso, you should remember that a 'treatment' isn't always a 'cure': there are ways to treat ASDs that make them have less of an impact.

True true.

And just to point out, fake treatments and promises can actually be harmful. I hope the moderators are exceedingly careful about what ads are allowed to run as there are vulnerable people on the AS spectrum, especially on support forums.

Actually, nobody cares.
There are ads about stem cell therapy for autism. Sad, but true.

Well, you know...ice baths, radium, electro-convulsive shock, conversion therapy and banning vaccinations didn't pan out in curing it so what do *they* have to lose? It's not like the FDA (or more recently, ICE/NSA) are rushing to break down the doors or issuing cease-and-desists to stop them.

I think my all time favourite were the special shoes that suck mercury from the soles of your feet. Because, apparently, Aspergers is actually mercury poisoning. So legit it hurts.

95% of the ads on the internet are scams which is why they are blocked. If sites want to have ads that are not "win a free apple watch" or "grow your dick 10 inches bigger" or "get rich with just these 5 steps" then I will be happy to view them. I actually enjoy watching funny tv commercials and sometimes wish there was a dedicated channel of them. I often look through my newspaper ads. But I can do either without being subjected to malware, spyware, viruses or lag and most of the time not be subjected to scams either. So I have no sympathy or remorse for blocking ads online.

It is not like I would buy any of the s**t anyways, so it would just end up being fake clicks which would drive up prices of advertisers. Something like 0.02% of people who click on banner ads ACTUALLY meant to click on them.

Poof! all my ads are gone!

And I know that there are ways to successfully treat it. I know because I've done it & continue to. I've been sharing about it here on WP for nearly 2 years now.

And I know that we must be exceedingly careful here, because there is a fine line between finding workarounds for autistic people to conform to cultural expectations...and autistic reparative therapy.

There is no fine line. there's a very bold line drawn in the sand between the life I lived with strong ASD symptoms a few years ago, and the one I live now with subclinical symptoms and the ability to intuitively function in the NT world due to the treatment protocol I follow.

And I'm very happy you had qualified therapists and good results. Not all parents nor potential adult patients know the difference, though, and there are therapists really don't care what damage is done to achieve the paid-for results. I'm only saying that caution should be used when promoting such things as a "cure". They may not work for everyone and not all therapists even believe the spectrum exists. In those cases, very real damage can be done.
