I highly doubt this would happen, but in the case that the United States did approve a bill reinstating the draft (Democratic representative Charles Rangel of New York has introduced the bill before, and plans to again in the future), would those with Asperger's Syndrome be exempt from being drafted and/or from being forced into combat situations? Some of us appear so normal that it would seem as though the government would consider Asperger's Syndrome a lousy excuse to avoid the draft. But the military is so harsh on its men, and they would be even more harsh on Aspies because they were different. I don't think it would be fair to force them into the military, but how would the government determine whether or not they can be drafted?

Some of us might be better off in the military. I certainly considered it, and there are a number of aspies on this site who have served, and found it a fulfilling life.

If I did happen to get drafted, I'd play the AS card to try and avoid going on the battlefield.

They would be pretty convinced I was insane if they even tried to draft me. My medical problems would keep them from accepting me though.

The whole point of restoring the draft is to put the final nail in the coffin in the executive
branch of government's power to get alot of people killed in an undeclared war. If rich peoples kids are put in the cross hairs the theory is it will become unlikely a future president will commit troops to any action unless super critical. Oh and yes the bill contains provision that college students and such can not get deferments.

The rich will still get out of it or around it just because the bill has provision that college students and such can not get deferments they will still avoid it. Money talks and if they do go I'm sure it will not be in combat roles.
As far as drafting an aspie I think some will do well others will be kicked out just like everyone else.
Also if they want a draft they should take women too why should men have to do it all

I'm too old. I'd serve, if they made me an officer, gave me some sort of technical/strategic job to do... but I'd be 4-F'ed as a grunt.

Are you kidding? It's an aspie heaven! Most aspies would love it. The strict routines, the seriousness with which everything down to the tiniest detail is treated, the demand for orderliness, the clear designation of social rank, the demand for mechanical skill, the focus on repetitive exercises, and the outright scorn for extensive social banter fits very neatly with aspie mentality. Furthermore, aspies would fare excellently in combat because one of the classic symptoms of Asperger's is a willingness to put oneself in risky situations. If we were to get into another world war and were forced to reinstate the draft, an open-minded military would put out leaflets calling for Aspies and those who fit the cast to put themselves first in line.

I will never go into the military based on personal morals and health reasons.
I'd be more of a danger to myself and my fellow soldiers than to both sides of battle.

Those with sensory problems would have a difficult time in combat. I have problems just eating out or going to the mall all the noise and movements drive me crazy.

Autistics cannot serve in the military, so you wouldn't be drafted and you wouldn't even be allowed to volunteer unless you hid your diagnosis. I suppose the military could question your diagnosis to try to conscript you, but I too doubt conscription will happen any time soon.

I'd leave the country.

Ditto - I'd milk the hell out of it.

Edit: Apparently asthma and allergies are a basis for exclusion as well - that would further exclude me. I've given an asthmatic advice on how to hide his condition from the military before (he was non-combat career military who developed it later in life and needed to pass a physical to make it like 4 more years until retirement). So I learned from him about asthma and military policy. I'd be excluded before autism ever came up.

That is what I guess kids of the rich will do and get citizenship somewhere else then come back as resident aliens.
