Hi, what films or animation have you seen which you think features a strong female character. I did't want to use the word feminist in the title as it could be distracting. Female characters are sometimes thought to be strong if they are displaying characteristics considered 'masculine', like physical strength or kicking ass, i think if a female character is a strong one if she is a well developed as a character, and has inner conviction.
She may be physically aggressive, as in perhaps Charlize Theron's character in Mad Max Fury Road,or Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, (i just watched that for the first time) but here i don't think its aggression displayed to force people with violence and threats for shallow individualistic goals, but rather because the situation needs aggression.
What film or animation or even books do you think have strong female characters?

Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Castle In The Sky
Naussicca of The Valley of the Wind

Hmm...I can't think of many others...as for books!
Mythaven Chronicles [written by me, which is why you can't buy it yet!]
Claymore [it's a manga; nudity, violence, blood, but lots of strong female characters]
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles [hilarious]

I'll add more titles as I think of them.

Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She's intelligent, independent and loves to read.

Mrs. Brisby from The Secret of NIMH because she risks her own life, even though she's afraid, just to save her son and ends up saving a whole community as well. Too bad the sorry sequel didn't give her any credit.

Miss Piggy. She can be one tough pig who doesn't take you-know-what from anyone. :)

Jasmine from Disney's Aladdin. Her father complains about how stubborn she is, but she's just ahead of her time and doesn't want to marry a prince who's a jerk and doesn't really love her.

Did you like Jennifer Lawrence who plays Katniss, when she was in the film Winters Bone. I thought that she a pretty good role model.

Two of my favorites. I always identified with Belle, because she was intelligent, loved to read, and was looked down upon by the townspeople because she didn't fit any of the expected female social roles for the time period.

She didn't care, though, and insisted on being herself. She rejected the superficial handsome jerk and saw him for what he was.

And she was brave and determined.
