They offer free shipping and $12 credit for joining. Thing I bought was only $10 so I get a free item and they lose money. Is it ethical? :s

I think about the same thing. I say go for it, it is the company's responsibility and they will probably be ok anyway. Good deals are rare, lots of things overpriced.

Yes of course. It's called a "loss leader."

They're offering it so it's not like you're stealing from them.

It's always okay for others to take advantage of you; it's never okay for you to take advantage of them. That's the answer, so better not ask and just do it.

retail is designed to make money, you'd be surprised the pricing games that are played. it's ethical, but they probably won't send you the 2$ you're not using.

Any private company worth its salt will factor in such customer behavior when designing deals.

Essentially, even though you - and many others - make only a small purchase which does not immediately cover the credit, the company is counting on recuperating those losses through (1) other customers who buy more and (2) repeat business from customers who have now signed up.

If the deal fails to be profitable for the company, then it is not due to any moral failings on your end, but to poor business acumen on their end.

I ordered it. Cost me 99¢ since the site wouldn't go through with it being free. It's a perfume site that had some shaving soap. I guess because it pairs with the same manufactures perfume.
