A question for the mods

I made a music mixtape mp3 file of various bands, and have been wanting to post a download link for the file in the 'Art writing and music' forum for the past couple of days, but have held off for fear that it may violate WP TOS. Would posting a link to the file in that forum be a TOS violation or not?

People post links to various music videos and tv shows that are on youtube...is there much of a difference?

Yeah. Youtube is responsible for monitoring
their content. WP is responsible for monitoring
it's own.

I would post it. If someone thinks its violating their copyrights. Then they can mail proof of their ownership to WP and WP can remove any infringing materials. But since its going to be hosted on a third party site I hardly see how WP is responsible? I guess the case could be made that WP may indirectly make a few pennies if alot people read the link since WP has banner adds. Also a mixed tape sounds like fair use if its limited to
a certain size and for non-commercial use. I think copyright owners get upset when you
copy whole works and post them on the net.

Ah. I didn't notice the third party issue.
Still, we shouldn't specifically condone
such behavior. Even if we shan't be
policing for it.

This includes copyrighted material, serial codes, and posts made to promote a website, group or product, particularly if made repeatedly and without other participation in the WP community (spamming). This also includes discussion of locked topics, discussion of banned members and why they were banned and anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members.
