I don't know what else to call it, but I just can't tell peoples' ages. I'll see a woman and think about talking to her but often I can't tell if she's 19, 28, or anywhere in between. I don't want to get talking to someone, decide I'm really interested in them only to later find out she's 15+ years younger than me.

You could inquire about their age before taking things any further than talking, I know it might seem rude but any decent person should understand it's a precaution. I look pretty young for my age and would have understood if my current boyfriend wanted proof of my age.

It's not unheard of that people get in trouble for sex with someone too young because they didn't know their age, almost happened to someone I know but luckily they found out how young she was and turned her down.

It might not be "age blindness" after all.

Until somebody reaches at least their 40s, people tend to look similar from the time they are about 21 or so.

Heck yes!

Though like kraftiekortie says it may not be age blindness but actually pretty normal.

A lot of the time I can not tell the difference between young women aged 16-20.

20-30 looks all the same to me, and past 30 I could not put an accurate guess on anyone.

Obviously, elderly people are clearly elderly, but I can also easily mistake say 50 for 70.

This applies to both males and females equally.

I incorrectly guessed a 23 year old co-worker as actually late-20s/28, though then again his beard did add a lot of age to him before he shaved.

Another co-worker, clearly much older, I couldn't really tell but he's 56.

I don't have to worry about all that right now when it comes to dating as obviously my age range for dating is much smaller right now (and I like it that way), it's just the whole 16-20 thing that gets me...

Then again, sometimes I can tell someone's a teenager immediately.

It's like this strange, psychological/sub-concious feeling biologically imprinted into me, so that when out and about if I see one, even if she doesn't have any indicators such as school uniform or teen fashion, I can tell she's around my age. It hits me almost instantaneously.

Doesn't anyone get this as well? When they see someone not just around their age range but basically one or two years off from your age?

I cant tell ages either but I have a rare low vision disorder & not a visual person even with stuff I can see well; like I could be looking rite at something I can see & not process that it's there rite away.

I hear it's not that uncommon for some women to lie & say their younger than they really are.

i've made people happy more than a few times by guessing their age as lower then it actually was.

It only gets worse from there.
When women hit menopause and the dating pool starts shrinking one is forced to consider further and further outside your age group and even generation.
It doesn't help that my favourite musical genres postdate my generation in the first place, so I'm searching in a younger crowd anyway. Even though I'm in a licensed venue and everyone is an adult, I'm still dividing the crowd into kids and adults so I can avoid awkward interactions, (Like that is at all possible),
Smile at 'em all and let dog sort 'em out. :D

*NB
If you tell a woman you are age blind - SHE WILL INSIST THAT YOU GUESS!
Think up some good one liners and put that to use.
