intel core i3 with 6G RAM, 250G samsung evo SSD, forcibly switched to windows 10, and especially with version 2 which was supposed to fix the problems with version 1, i have found that half the time or more, my puter locks up when on WP to the point where Edge browser collapses and restarts, repeatedly sometimes within minutes. looking at my puter resource monitor, when on WP my processor is getting slammed, all my RAM is being used and the CPU temperature soars to over 70F. when i try to do anything on a WP page, nothing happens [the page locks up] but the CPU getting hotter, the chip can roaring, and when my RAM usage reaches 85% i'll get a pop up dialogue box that says "out of memory, reboot?" how hotrod a puter do i need so that it will function properly on WP? btw, the only way i could post this [it wouldn't let me type in a post box, it just locked up again] was to compose this letter in wordpad then copy/paste it into the post box. half the time it won't even let me do that. this happens ONLY on WP. can i have some information please about how hotrod a puter I need to make WP run properly without these difficulties? thanx in advance :)

You shouldn't need a fast computer to browse Wrong Planet. If it's locking up, something else could be going on with your computer.

Ctl-Alt-Del -> Task Manager

See what is eating the CPU and try killing it but bear in mind that if its a system file your computer could become unstable but nothing a reboot can't fix. If you aren't a gamer though I would flat out recommend Ubuntu at this point. As long as you stick with an LTS, Ubuntu is decent.

I'd start with edge, no sense changing out the system if installing chrome will fix the problem. Windows 7 is a tad more stable then Windows 10 but I was more thinking some program doesn't like you CPU and is eating cycles. Web browsing on an i3 shouldn't get hot, something else is running, you have a decent computer for what you are doing. Though those threads with a bunch of youtube links will run slow because that even runs slow on my eight core computer.

yeah...

I really recommend Firefox or Chrome unless there is a serious reason not to use them, doesn't matter which one, they are both good but nothing else really is.

This site does have a tendency to make at least some browsers more and more sluggish till you have to restart them. I can keep them running for weeks browsing other sites, but every time I visit WrongPlanet, they get a bit closer to becoming unusable. There are other sites with this property, but I don’t frequent them.

what do you think the things are on this site that are doing this kind of damage?

No idea, though it probably has something to do with some script. You could try disabling JavaScript, if you don’t mind some features not working. I still think the affected browsers must have some weakness to let a site make them sluggish this way; it should be theoretically possible for a browser to be immune to this problem, but I don’t know how intricate this might be in practice.

I know that it seems to be fighting off some kinda malware, as I have to run a malware cleaner after only a few hours on site.

Windows 10 is meant to work with Chromium or Chrome, but I think its because some of the pages are cached and not scheduled for deletion and others are just laying in, for the next autumnal bout of cross over checks.. meaning any time in the next full moon of the half century.
I phones don't collaborate with normal p.cs and notebooks nor androids.. so maybe if someone were to downsize the size of this forum programme with its own cookie based management profile, no one would have to play discus with two domain owners.. which means turning off the passive reconstructive patterns.
It looks like it does intervene with malware, but maybe the motto here is if its not bleeding, leave it.. (or bleed trying).
Registering under another cheap domain would have its own share of turnstile registry, but surely public opinion should be valid enough to secure us in a domain with a safer browser and log-in form registry.
If someone were to buy off WrongPlanet, ALEX would no longer be the owner. Someone else would need to employ a new set of rules and, stake out the site or sell it.
So, frustratingly, he has to play second pacemaker to secure longevity of the site.. or people would have to start looking elsewhere for their regular chit-chats.
