I work at a fast food restaurant primarily in the drive thru window, but when we have no customers and I've completed all my secondary tasks, I find myself getting increasingly restless. I will often shake or bounce, mess with things on the desk, or sing quietly, but I would like something to actually do.
So I've had the thought of putting together a small kit which I can bring with me to keep me entertained in these slow periods. I have toys at my house, but none of them will quite work. Playdough is too messy, legos have too many small pieces, stuffed animals are too big, drawing or colouring takes up too much space [though I do often doodle on discarded receipts], and sewing is just out of the question.
Basically, I need toys that
- Are small enough to fit in a pocket but not small enough to get lost easily
- Do not make a lot of noise
- Are not messy
- Can be played with without too much concentration [I have to be on constant alert for customers]
- Are inexpensive
I've done some research online at different toys, mostly on Therapy Shoppe, but I would like some feedback from other people. Any suggestions?
