Isn't the site hosted in the country of the 1st Amendment?

How could it then be, irony of ironies, in the same country dead soldiers are spitted upon by some fringe group and crosses can be burned in front of houses as a warning by the KKK, like supposedly protected under law... how could it be that, yes, even if this site is private, all it hosts is mere text, so why should words be banned? Not only that, but akin to fascist dictators everywhere the software suddenly springs into action and goes from being a rickety old thing to mega cover-up opaque saga mode. This site may not be a country - good thing or the world may have had to add one more country to its refugees-status list - but you need to decide if all you want is your buddies all patting each other on the back with your brilliant affirmative discussion of no disagreement whatsoever, or actually real conversations where views differ and cheerleading isn't somehow the only acceptable hobby in politics. No, I will not bow down to some obese orangutan, nor will I kowtow to the fantasies of digital wannabe-omnipotent forum gamers.

Bottom line, you need re-evaluate your approach and converse and instead of somehow thinking like that ret*d wannabe-president and "NUKE, NUKE, NUKE ALL COUNTRIES" (muahaha...) - the states must suck if such a large percentage of citizens think like he does, seriously, and it reflects online too... right, padde?

Hello, Mootoo.

Obligatory opener: the first amendment doesn't mean that other people have to let you say what you want. It doesn't protect you from the consequences of your speech. It just stops the government persecuting you for what you say.

You were banned for 1 week for repeatedly abusing other members and groups, in breach of our rules. You had received three previous warnings, most of them recent, from a variety of moderators. You called other users "paranoid schizophrenics", a clear breach of our rules. Unfortunately, due to a glitch in the forum software, you weren't banned when I first tried to ban you and I had to ask skilpadde to do it for me. This meant there was a delay between your abuse and the actual ban, so it may have seemed arbitrary to you.

Many people manage to disagree without abusing other members. I believe all our mods are opposed to Donald Trump, and Alex has made his views known very forcefully, but we don't throw groundless insults at other users. We have banned several Trump supporters, so I do not think you have any grounds to propose that this is some sort of pro-Trump conspiracy.

Since you were banned, you have created several sockpuppets to get around your ban. You have used some of these to spread content that is clearly in breach of WrongPlanet's rules. This is not acceptable. You are better than that.

Your ban is due to expire tomorrow. We all want you to be part of this community, but you have to avoid posting attacks on other users. It's understandable that you feel passionately about a potential Trump presidency, but you cannot make personal attacks on other users or otherwise break WrongPlanet rules. If you do not feel you can contribute civilly to political discussions, then perhaps you should exercise some self-discipline and avoid participating in them.

I did not want to do this in public, but unfortunately your repeated creation of alt accounts, as well as your calls for transparency, has left me with little choice. Again, I want to emphasise that you are welcome to be part of our community as long as you obey the rules. Until recently, you were a model user with exceptional conduct and we do not want to lose you.

I think this comic by XKCD sums it up quite nicely:

You know I for one am very pleased to see the moderators attempt to work with people that might not know how to communicate. We all make mistakes and I am super happy that Wrong Planet tries and becomes a safe place for all and it really appears from where I am standing that the mods are extra accommodating in this regard. They seem to be fair and reasonable so long as people are fair and reasonable to them. I think a ten day ban is generous and I would be grateful with such if the site offered me forgiveness in this example.

However, shouldn't this be lock as to not break the rule about talking about banned members?

People who make sites are allowed to have site rules for forums, free speech doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want whenever you want regardless of anything. If it makes you that mad you can go find a website with no rules and post there.

Freedom of speech or any fundamental right, doesn't give you rights over others. You don't have a right to publish on Wrong Planet, they are publishing your words under terms. It is simple to understand really.

Please learn about rights.

Good point.
