Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post it, but I want to bring the situation in the IRC channel #wrongplanet to your attention. I have been attacked by some person from this site called "Okar", who even went as far as impersonating me and spilling out abuse to other members of the channel (some are my best friends there).

I want to have actions taken, namely:

1. bring out more Ops in the channel! Most of the time, nobody hears my complaints or takes actions about them!
2. take actions too soon rather than too late! If some user is wrongly banned for a few months, no real harm is done, but if some impersonation is going on, the whole channel trust pattern can be disrupted for a long time (as seems to happen in my case...)
3. treat people equally! Some users like CrazyEddy seem to have some special credit for being in the channels since "day 1", despite not being productive in any sense to the discussion and really acting "crazy"
4. I don't think that being aspie is an excuse for acting "crazy" or like a troll or for constantly acting against the channel guidelines which demand to "treat each other with respect". I want people to be kicked earlier instead of listening to long arguments about how they are "not to be blamed for acting a bit childish"
5. I think removing the link to the channel is not helping at all! It's actually making things worse: the old, experienced channel trolls stay in the channel, acting crazy and newcomers are locked out!

Thanks,
Bluetar

Might be a good idea. I have no desire to pay any attention
to a chat room, and it seems most of the mods don't.

Found it just to inhospitable for my taste. The problem is,
the only candidates for the position would seem to be
those already there, and they seem to be who you are
complaining about. :P

WP's chat room is the first I have used (starting just a month or so ago) and I've been in earnest using the Internet for 9 years. I don't miss this spammer, whoever he or she is, and know some action must be taken against those who abuse the channel, but I miss having people to talk with about web programming and about social interaction, so hopefully everything will be up and running again soon.

I haven't been on there in quite a while (not really all that sure why...just haven't...) but from what experience I have there I definitely agree.

The first time I went, everything got really
quiet. Then after a while, it got kind of out
of hand. But, given that our instructions
did not cover such issues, I figured that
it would be out of hand to try and moderate
it. Didn't seem like fun to do so, anyhow.

I think the current Ops are not bad at all, you have to thank them for putting in that effort anyway!

But: they surely could use a little more help! And I think it could maybe be enough to just defend users by other users against trolls etc., just "support" the Ops a bit.

I remember, that about a year ago, the channel was maybe too strict, which also isn't a perfect solution, but at least keeps it quiet.

Btw: I found that ISPs are not really helping when you try to complain about their users...

Hi Bluetar, it is me again. I am very very extremely sorry for what happened to you, and I hope it does not happen ever again to you. I feel sorry that happened to you Bluetar. It sounds terrible. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you very much for your nice comment, Kate! :P I think you are a person who really cares about people in here and I think that if everyone would be as nice as you, we wouldn't have all those problems.
