I made a thread about a possible civil war started by some Trump supporters. My intent was to provoke debate. Instead, it provoked a rehash of an apparent ongoing, unrelated feud between two PPR posters. The thread was then locked. Is it possible in some cases to delete unrelated posts without having to lock whole threads? I made a new thread because the thread that contained a link to a news article that interviewed Trump supporters threatening civil war if Trump lost was in the News forum, and I didn't want to clutter that OP's thread. If a mod thinks that a thread is beyond repair, then sure lock it, but I just wanted to have a discussion only to have the thread commandeered by two people having a personal feud. Now any other threads on that topic will be locked immediately. That means that an important subject cannot be discussed any longer, simply because two posters having a p*ssing contest.

Yeah, sorry about that. It wasn't all fun and giggles for me either...a mod also went back and edited out my best line in the fight.

I think the thread should be reopened also.
The people who caused the problems should be dealt with, not the person who made the thread.
There was a legitimate discussion going on that got derailed.

Derailing happens to mods also. My "It Can't Happen Here" thread has also been derailed by two perennial foes. I will ask the team to have a look at the current situation re this. There are no rules against derailing because normally it happens incidentally and accidentally, and some threads naturally devolve away from the title issue, however these are not normal times it seems. FYI I didn't lock your thread, and I respectfully remind people that discussion of locked threads is still against the rules. If my own thread continues to be derailed, it too may have to be locked. I think there is a separate issue, however, if any particular member becomes a chronic derailer of threads.

I think The_Walrus is becoming problematic... he's locking seemingly everything in sight without even leaving any notes, distorts rule interpretation, or even seemingly comes up with arbitrary ones ("24 hour rule"? He just added it on his own in some post... why would a single person be allowed to add anything?)

If you want to accuse moderators, then send a PM to Alex, rather than grandstand here. Discussion of locked topics is once again breaking the rules. Targeting any moderator here is not the way to go about things. I am locking this thread, Mootoo, for those reasons.
