Could white men do all the work?

Suppose we did have a civil war and all the women and non-white men decided to stay home and not go into work--could the white men keep everything going and run a country all by themselves?

... Depends on what country you live in...

I was thinking of the USA--extrapolated from all the implied threats made recently by politicians.

Might be kind of hard to run a country if the gas stations closed down.

Considering people of color make up nearly 40% of the U.S. population, definitely not.

I imagine the same would happen if all white men decided to "stay home" as you say.

No matter who "stayed home" hospitals and other essential services would be disrupted.

What is the point of this exercise??? It only shows the essential nature of all of us, but sounds like a wedge meant to separate us....I see no redeeming value.

Get sick scent help for you. Having been in hospitals and rehab centers for over a year I can tell you the vast majority of nurses and aids are non white women. Who is going to take care of all those maimed during the civil war?

Want to eat?. A lot of the cooks and help are non white. And despite feminism the women still do most of cooking at home.

Want your kid mothered?. Want your kid taught?. Unlike 50 years ago the vast majority of teachers are women.

Need a female vocal singer to calm you down when stressed? Nope. There still will be a varity of music genres but a lot less innovation, and you are stuck with white mens interepation of styles that grew out of from non white experiences.

And there is the loss of talent from people killed and maimed in the civil war.

Some of you have a real problem with white people.

If there was a civil war I imagine lots of people regardless of skin color wouldn't just be continuing on like nothings happening, a civil war would certainly be pretty close to home since it would be here not in some other country....it would probably interfere with lots of people going to work not just people who aren't white.

Also I don't think the sides would come down to white people vs. not white people if there was a civil war...I suppose I don't really get this thread.

but yeah, I am hoping whatever the result that after its over that people will start treat each other with a little more respect. It's a very personal election however and I don't see things resolving themselves on November 9th.

Men had to take their children to work, which I'm sure will have affected productivity.

Women could probably cope a bit better, because "men's work" tends to deal with emergencies rather than day-to-day necessities like care.

We would miss a lot, but lots of musical innovation has come from white men. Punk, prog, psychedelica, electropop, dream pop, shoegaze, metal, grunge, Britpop, drum and bass, dubstep, chillwave... even pop and classical are "white" inventions, along with European folk music. To be honest I think musical innovation is largely inevitable and somewhat predictable. And of course music travels across borders now, so if Kendrick and Beyonce and Kanye and Frank and Taylor and Dev packed up and moved to Canada then Americans would still have something to put on their iPods.

I don't understand the question. Why would women and people of non-white ethnicity stop working. This must be a hypothetical.

So if such a circumstance were to occur it would change a lot of things including the work load of white men. Can you expand on your question?

Bizarre hypothetical scenario alert.

How many casualties are there? What percentage of the population remains to run things? What was the composition of the warring groups?

Robots will be doing most of the work soon enough, anyway.
