So what powers do they have exactly?

I think they have x-ray vision.
And as far as I know they can move/edit/delete posts and/or threads. Dunno what else though.

What about delving into our most personal and private PM's? And do they know our passwords?

I don't think they can do either of those things. I hope they can't read PMs anyway haha.

Mods can not read your pm nor do we know your password. Typically no one knows your password but you and the server. The admin(Alex) does not need to know your password. We will know your IP address and email addresses. The main powers we have is to move, edit, deleted, forum posts. But as a rule those are things that should rarely be needed by a moderator.

As for as moderators trying to micromanage every problem on WP thats more likely to result in more or equal number of problems at the least so thats why you do not see moderators acting often.

Also warning aspies in any fashion tends to be counter productive so there is little value in that.

Usually the password is held in a one way hash on forums. Unless they use a hash dictionary and your password is particularly guessable it is not likely they can get you password. Alex can reset your password as can you. Some password systems use a private encryption system to protect them, therefore enable to retrieve them when you're forgotten but it is not necessary and a bit ret*d. Technically hash collision is not impossible, however with non-derivative jiggery pokery it can make it even more secure.

mitch im not sure about that, if they do or not, but i have eben to a message board that the mods can and do know the passwords(shame on them) once when i went to change my password from a server generated one to a real human made password, i then got a pm from a moderator saying my password was too easy to guess and get hacked into by.

I can do all of the rest. I can also trace an IP address on a post. Additionally, we can ban members by user name and IP address. That is only supposed to be used in emergency situations (e.g. Atomik f*cktard spamming) - moderator bans are not considered "permanent" bans until reviewed by Alex.

PM's and passwords are off limits. However, if someone wanted to forward me a PM because they were being harrassed or something, I'd be willing to get involved and ask the offending party to quit harrassing or whatever. But none of us can (nor do we want) the ability to go and read people's PMs.

Alex doesn't have mods over the blogs and articles. As far as I can tell, the only person that can make changes on that is him.

It's also my understanding that the chatroom has its own set of mods. I don't know what they can/can't do in thre - I never go into the chatroom, so I doubt that I will ever find out or be eligible to be made a mod of that place.

I don't think anyone has access to passwords.

AFAIK Alex has access to PM's but we do not.

have the power to ban - but this is reserved
to being used in stopping an atomika style

I think we have the ability to moderate
the chatroom. We seem to have a control
panel with which we can 'kick' people. I've
no idea what that does, nor is it in our mandate
to do anything about them. If someone wants
me to test that ability out, let me know, and
we can see. No guarantees that, if it does
what it sounds like, we can let you back on
though.

I don't mind being guinea pig if anyone wants to know.
