Who else likes the movie, I Am Me, produced in 2015 by the disabilities/hate-crime advocacy group I Am Me Scotland ( http://www.iammescotland.co.uk/ )?

While it has a few scenes which might trigger some viewers' anxiety, I believe that the movie is quite good overall. After contacting the group to learn if it sells copies of the movie, I learned that it doesn't. Still, the group's staffers say that the movie is proudly included on its YouTube.com channel ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW7l-6 ... 84zktGGBrg ). The full movie is available at YouTube.com ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHnssahA-YI ).

IMDb.com ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4195236/?ref_=ttpl_pl_tt ) describes the movie in this way: "'I Am Me' tells the story of 24 year old Charlie, a young man with a learning disability and autism. Charlie loves gardening and books but hates shouting and graffiti. The story begins as Charlie is moving into his own flat. With Charlie's mum being ill and struggling with his care, Charlie's older brother Tom is keen that he takes steps towards living a more independent life. Over time though Charlie is targeted by local youths and the abuse starts to escalate. 'I Am Me' is a hard hitting and emotional film that explores many complex issues surrounding the effects of disability hate crime, in a thought provoking yet sensitive way."

What is your opinion about the movie?

Sounds like a fascinating film, especially since I'm also an autistic person who's learning how to transition to adult independence. I'll put it on my watchlist and tell you all what I thought of it when I'm done watching.

I watched it because of this thread, and very much liked it. Thanks, AspieUtah.

I think it is interesting that I Am Me Scotland uses the combination of autism awareness and hate-crime awareness to advocate about both topics.

You are welcome! Having worked as a hate-crime adviser for some years, I knew that Scotland has (or had) one of the highest violence rates among developed nations according to the United Nations. That fact can't be good for anyone in Scotland, especially those with autism.

The funny thing is that I watched the movie twice before I realized that the lead actor (Daniel Cameron "Charlie") wasn't actually autistic. I simply presumed "how nice, the filmmakers hired an autistic actor!" :)

Thank you AspieUtah, I am so pleased you passed on those details. I thought it was really well done and made its point perfectly.

I do have to calm down and stop thinking of the medieval torture I would inflict on the bullies though, it isn't doing my blood pressure and good at all

It is helpful, I believe, to understand the cycle of bullying. A good, simple explanation comes to us from no less than actor Christopher Eccleston and his own bullying:
