How many people play with their clothing, often to the point of destroying it in a relatively short time? By playing, I mean picking at sleeves, buttons, pockets (especially the corners of back pockets), hems of any sort, etc.

Actually, as I type this, one of the buttons on my shirt is just about to rip off because I'm playing with it. It's been especially problematic lately because I've been wearing Hawaiian shirts quite a bit, and I end up taking at least one button off per week, sometimes more. The sleeves on my t-shirts are often ripped at the seams that I play with, and my blue jeans suffer immensely when I pull at the corners of the back pockets.

That said, I don't think it's something that is terribly noticeable when I do it, and it's a nice inconspicuous way to stim when I need to do so, although I still feel bad for my poor, poor clothing. What did it ever do to me? :)

So how do you all feel about this?

I fiddle with my sleeves or trouser legs usually when someone else is around, but I've never fiddled with them enough to damage them.

I do this a lot.
I also have a bad habit of tugging at things to make them looser as I dont like clingy things much...and end up with buttons coming off as a result.

Yeah...that button is almost off =)

Close fitting clothing feels absolutely terrible to me, but I can't bring myself to throw away or get rid of those particular articles, and when I run out of more comfortable clean clothing...well...

I derive a certain tactile satisfaction from picking at my clothes, though; I will press the seems up against the edge of my hand towards my thumb, or up against my fingers (used to bite my fingers when I was a kid, but I think that playing with clothes is a little less noticeable!). Perhaps even worse than picking at my clothes is picking at my girlfriend's clothes when we are sitting together, usually watching TV or somesuch thing. She catch me doing it, stare at me for a second, and then ask if I am picking at her clothes. Of course I stop, and then say "No." :D

Yes, mostly when I'm stressed. I also fiddle with parts of my body (ooh-er missus!)
I rub my ear in social situations and don't notice it till later when I suddenly notice I have a sore and bleeding ear. :?

If I notice that I've got those little balls on my sweater, I'll start picking them off. I'll get rather involved and end up grabbing at my boob or under my arm or something in the middle of class.

Yes, but at least I don't pick holes in them like I used to.

I do this sometimes expecially when I'm not even paying attention... My boyfriend pointed it out to me the other day, I was unbuttoning and buttoning my shirt liek over and over and over, which is a bad thing haha.
