Are you scared of teenagers?

I admittedly am, even now that I am a decade older than many of them. Less so if I only encounter them on a one-to-one basis, but if they congregate in large groups it can set off my anxiety response. (Context: I was bullied a lot at school by groups of teenagers.)

Part of it, I think, comes down to feeling 'younger' within myself, which I suspect might tie in with the developmental aspects of autism. For example, I still see 16-17-year-olds as 'older', even though to their eyes I am an adult and likely more experienced than they are. It's as though I'm still an 11- or 12-year-old child in my mind's eye.

Nevertheless, I try to challenge these assumptions of mine head-on. I know it's not fair of me to make generalisations and be suspicious of teenagers as a group; indeed, I can remember being about 13 myself and feeling very frustrated that adults would sometimes lump me in alongside the very same kids who were making my life difficult.

No. I think about the only time I might be afraid of one is if he were to pull a gun on me or something. Other than that I have no reason to fear them. They're just younger humans, whoopee.

I'm not scared exactly, but when I walk by a big group of teenagers I think they might make funny noises at me or laugh at me or something. I get angry because I feel I shouldn't be tormented by teenagers at my age. Teenagers are just little kids to me now (although they aren't little kids, but you know what I mean).

However, for the last 3 or 4 years I've noticed that teenagers don't torment me any more. I think maybe I finally look like an adult to them and they prefer to pick on someone their own age.

I was a teenager 1ce & I only caused problems for my parents & that's mostly because they didn't understand my issues & disabilities. I'm not scared of teens unless they're doing something to warrant it; like acting like they're ready to fight each other or something.

I used to be.

The older I get, the less I care.

A teenager played ratatat-ginger (Ding dong ditch ) the other day at my house and then got on his bike and sped off - unfortunately for him he had to ride up a hill to get away so I easily caught him , I pretended to be really cross and he denied doing it and was getting upset , I told him if you want to play games with people expect them to play games back , I smiled and walked off

No I'm not scared of teenagers

I don't think it's a secret in my case. It doesn't help that I never was really a teenager myself. :)

Western society, ironically because of its obsession with youth, hates teenagers, haven't you noticed?

People are always saying "You think your kids are bad now? Wait until they become teenagers."

Or, "If this is how you're like now, I hate to think what you're going to like as a teenager."

My own mother once had a sign in our basement rec room that said, "I don't need drugs. Having teenagers is as far from reality as I want to get".

But if you hate little kids, people think you're an evil, horrible person like Miss. Trunchbull from Mathilda. Kids can be completely cruel and evil while their parents are clueless and let them act like Chucky the doll. I once heard children don't even begin to develop a conscience until they're around 5. It seems like every commercial with little kids I see these days now has them acting like little demons while their parents make Homer Simpson look like Einstein, and it's supposed to be "cute". Am I missing something here? :?

Little kids are cute and aren't as skilled in life, as they are still learning.

Teenagers aren't playful little children any more, and although most aren't adults yet, they still have more life skills than little kids.

I hated being a teenager. I was expected to act like an adult but was treated like a child. It's confusing being a teenager, whether you're NT or not.

I feel uncomfortable around them because they're very loud and often looking for other people to make fun of to make themselves look cooler. Unfortunately I look about 15 so they think they are picking on someone their own age whereas I think if they knew I was nine years older than them, they wouldn't dare.
