I think this upgrade should have been better 'signposted'. A lot of members may not have been aware of the very low key, inconspicuous post by Alex on July 7, and some might even have been worried that the site had gone out of business when it disappeared without warning last night. An email to every member, stating when and for how long the site was to go offline, would have been appreciated...
Why? The service that Alex provides is free to all members, and we're fortunate that the owner of this website takes any interest in it at all.

Anyway, acknowledgement is due for the fact that an upgrade has at last taken place, and let's hope all runs a good deal more smoothly from now on.
According to the "inconspicuous post" you mentioned, it was just a move to another server, not an upgrade.
