We got to discussing where the majority of WP users come from in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=371226&p=8098884#p8098884

Some commenters said that it was obvious the site is US-centric because it is hosted from the US, and I say, I don't necessarily agree.

Would you be willing to provide some descriptive stats on the locations of users?

There are many non-US people here, among those are many prominent posters.

Posters from the US are probably the most numerous, though I don’t believe they make up an absolute majority.

Quite a few prominent posters are from the UK, Norway, Sweden, and Australia. There are a decent amount of Dutch. There’s a decent amount of Germans and some Poles and New Zealanders, too. Brazilians are not uncommon. There are French posters,

A moderator is from Croatia. Another is from New Zealand. Another is from the UK. Another from South Africa. Another from the US.

One long-term poster is from Lebanon. Another is from the Phillipines

It would be erroneous to say that WrongPlanet is US-centric. Except US politics can be said to dominate the PPR threads. Especially with the advent of Trump.

there are people from all over the world. The US is the biggest but it only makes up close to half of our traffic,

I didn't know he was a Brit , I suppose I haven't got to know him like other mods here.

The Walrus is from Reading. He hasn't been posting much as of late. He's probably really busy with something really important.

A lot of people have fake or joke locations on their profile or leave it blank. Which is fine, but it makes it hard to know what country everyone is from.

Often one of the first indications that someone is not from US is spelling: colour for color, socialise for socialize, etc.

If asking for help with assessment, treatment options, etc., it's very helpful to specify your location.

What, does "Stendec" confuse you?

I'm in the U.S. of A.

Well I figured that. But which Stendec? The one in Montana, Illinois or Kentucky? Of course there's Stendec, Estonia but I ruled that out due to your use dangling participles.

What I said was that "its obvious that it is US centric". Obvious because you can see how US culture and issues dominate (not monopolize, just dominate). And that the reason for that probably stems from the fact the site was founded in the US by an American.

HELLOOOO....notice the obvious.

That we all are having this conversation in English.

That betrays American domination right there.

The US isn't the only country where English is chiefly spoken, albeit it a rather twisted form of it... :P

That sounds like Meccano, so it must be a constructed language.

The fact that we are conversing in English is due to English colonialism. "The sun never sets on the British Empire." English is the closest thing Earth has to a universal language; it's the language of international aviation; it has even replaced Latin to some degree as the language of science.

The USA is probably the wealthiest and most successful of the English former colonies, but that doesn't mean it dominates in everything. And I wouldn't want it to.
