I thought walking around in public was bad enough for anxiety but driving's worse. It's not so bad when nobody's around so I usually drive in the night to practice, but when other cars or people are around I'll start to feel panicked. Especially so when there's traffic, someone's behind me or I'm going somewhere I haven't been before.

Yea, the stars were aligned when I passed the test.

If you have a similar ordeal, what helps you?

i dont have an exact same ordeal, but when i am mastering a new skill i am afraid about, i need a friend, who allready has it, near me. to calm me, tell me its ok, and caution me before i make bad mistakes (then talk them over and help me correct them). untill im confident.

After awhile the skill of driving will become almost an automatic function. You need practice. Driving down a deserted country road is good practice in the beginning. Then eventually integrate driving in traffic. Rush hour traffic on a major freeway can be the worst, so save that until last. Just work your way slowly up the difficulty level.

If you feel that you are beginning to experience a panic attack, remember to take several deep breathes. It will help you break a panic. Also pull off the road and allow yourself time to stabilize before you begin again.

Sounds like a good idea. It's gonna take a brave person to get in a car with me driving it but if I get the opportunity to practice with a friend then I'll take it. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the reply man. I practice on quite roads at night when I can, I'll look to improve from that. You're right too, working up to bigger roads at busier times is good advice. As for trying to remain calm, it's pretty tough and I'll stop if it gets too much. I'm hoping that one day I won't even have to think about that though.

I get anxiety for when it comes to decision making or when someone is with me instead of the act itself.

I think I get what you mean. Unfortunately decision making is hard when you're driving since you have to think quickly in a lot of situations. There's more pressure to not make mistakes when someone else is with you too, that really doesn't help with anxiety. Best of luck to you.
