Never mind all the other drugs, when I'm freaking out, I need caffeine from beans. Every time I start losing my cool, it's coffee or nothing. I have 2 more hours of work in a 9 hour day before I can meet my friend later & this cappuccino is my only recourse. My coworker suggested checking how much I spend on coffee & I immediately balked. That's not an option for me, I've been forcing myself to coexist with machines before people for years & years.

I wish some friends would find ways to wake me up.

Nothing quite like a good mug of joe - I love flavoured lattes myself.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed,
The hands acquire shakes,
The shakes become a warning.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

I tend to go insane in the absence of people who know me, my other best friends are mostly baristas.

I'm a coffee aficionado as well. I can never get enough of it.
That being said, I don't drink it for the caffeine so much as the taste.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. The linguistic divide between me & people who don't study over espressos at 6pm can be painful. I speak decent scientific Latin & pretty lame English. I'm not a smooth talker, I just know a few things.

I want to see my friends more. I can write certain kinds of code all day, texting them is much harder. :(

I'd seriously appreciate anything you may know about how to tell someone in a text that I'm sorry for being so socially illiterate.

I used to drink a lot of coffee and Monster ultra red because of the flavor more than for caffeine, which I didn't think affected me much. But I came to realize it was making me edgy and I might have also had an bit of an addiction to it.

Where I love a good cup of black super sweet coffee (so it tastes like coffee ice cream)
with my favourite bean being Columbian (which goes well with sugar)

I have to warn anyone out there that coffee, like tea, most soda's and chocolate all contain caffeine
which is really bad for people with any form of anxiety disorders.

some good news is that it is possible to buy decaf coffee, which is about a 3rd strength of normal coffee

If you do not like the taste of filtered coffee, I recommend trying classic Americano style, or even cold press.
Cold Press, the coffee comes out sweeter but a lot stronger. Less acidic if the acid of the coffee is giving you problems such as IBS or gastric flux (which happens to some as they get older or more overweight)

There are other ways to make coffee, which some swear by. Such as the old fashion Vacuum press
which looks like apparatus from a science experiment

French press also can be good, as well as Moka pot style.

I'm pretty careful not to let all the sanity beans dehydrate me or mess with my blood sugar too much. I usually stick to cappuccinos or cold brew, so there's at least a variance to my caffeine intake. I used to drink energy drinks but these days I just have a natural one every once in a while. Caffeine + sugar is a lot harder on me than just coffee.

My anxiety is really intense but it's even worse when I'm low on energy or focus. I'm too intense. Coffee or no coffee, I think too much for most people to stay in touch with me.

People dont seem all that interested in me because Im too introverted.

You could just come right out and text to people that you are socially illiterate. They might find that cute. They probably dont care if you are though. I was under the impression that people socialized less these days anyway, because theyre all on the internet.

I suppose most people I know are close enough to my level of social alienation for one reason or another, but with me it's a "disability" requiring constant adjustment for me to be considered functional at all.

Coffee now, weed later because I've got anxiety stronger than any drug. I've been trying to self-medicate less but no one ever really thinks I'm medicated enough. :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Dune is a cool movie.

I quit coffee and tea. I do feel like I lost a friend. Why did I quit? My blood pressure, which has been normal all of my life became elevated to high a few months back and I was getting chest pains. I thought I had heart problems. After $3,000 worth of tests (I have to pay that), I found out my heart is fine. It had to be caffeine. I kicked, and my blood pressure is normal again and my heart feels fine.

I was drinking the equivalent of 15 cups of coffee per day before I quit. "Just drink less coffee, Magna and the problem is solved." Nope. My body always ends up wanting more. If I don't feed the habit....crushing caffeine withdrawal headaches/migraines.

Truth be told, physically I feel better overall being off caffeine. I'm actually less tired overall. I must say I agree with all of you that it can be divine though. I hearken back to the days when I'd roast and grind my own beans and brew in my espresso machine or in a vacuum pot or press pot.

I like Dune too.

Piter De Vries, your espresso is ready.
