If there is a thread that you once posted on but the discussion is no longer interesting to you for various reasons, is there a way to forget the thread so that it no longer shows up in the "View Your Posts"?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Usually such a thread will "die" anyway as other members may lose interest in it too. The threads will stay but gradually be pushed back to "back pages" where it's more difficult for people to see them. Occasionally really old threads get resuscitated even after years but very rare.

Sometimes when you've posted all you wish to post on a thread and have read all that you wish to read, there doesn't seem to be any reason to keep seeing it every time someone else posts on that thread.

On another matter, if there is a thread that you wish to read but don't have time at the moment, it would be nice to be able to mark it to be read later without having to post something on it that may not be all that interesting or on-topic.

Not sure if that's what you need, but on the top left, right under the title of the thread, there's a button that says "unsubscribe" (you're automatically subscribed once you post in it) - if you hit that you won't get notifications anymore. Alternatively, if you subscribe to a thread even if you didn't post in it you'll get notifications every time someone posts there. Or you can just bookmark it in your browser and open it from there.

In my experience the "View your posts" functions doesn't work anyway. Or doesn't work the way the name denotes. It doesn't serve up just your own posts. Its serves up EVERY post made by everyone on every thread in the last X number of hours.

If I wanna revisit a thread, and cant find it, I will just find a post in another thread that I myself made, and just click "view this person's previous posts" as if I were another person, to get at my own previous posts.

The only way to cause that to happen is to submit a post so profound that no one would want to respond to it.

But only if you have already posted in it.

Or a post that gets the thread locked.

On another board in another time in another place (how's that for being overly dramatic), someone once remarked that they use my posts to see when to stop reading. According to him, after I posted on a topic, it tended to end the discussion and so all he had to do is read down until he read a post from me that he remembered and he didn't have to look any further. I started paying attention to that and it was surprising how many times that his observation was correct.
