There is an eccentric non binary individual on the internet, who is getting some degree of visibility, who claims there gender is autism.

Many of you who post on this forum may be familiar with this individual,I'm not LGBT so I just heard if this person a few weeks ago.And again today on YouTube

So I thought I would start a post on this theory and see what people think.

What I think about that is no thanks.

Seems like a strange way of idk trying to infiltrate the autistic community, not that there is a very specific autism community but even so. But what are their reasons for suggesting its a gender? Even though I suspect nonsense it would still be curious to see I suppose what their argument is exactly.

I'm not quite sure if they have specified arguments, put "autism is my gender" into YouTube search engine and video or video's should pop up.If your curious.

Your looking for a stocky built biological female with green hair and nose ring

You have my name in quotes,I made no such claim I just started a discussion about a person who has made such an assertion.

I personaly view gender as a biological construct not a social one,if someone goes through surgery and hormones and changes there biology than I respect that but gender is still biological. There are only genders and I do respect people who can't indentify with one gender or the other but scientificaly there are only two genders.

No, the software has your name in quotes, and only because I quoted what you posted. I never did claim that this is your opinion, only that the opinion itself is both lame and half-assed ... like a mule ... rendered impotent at birth.

VermontSavant, no one who follows W.P. would think that you would say something like this and take it seriously. We're quite sure that you understand common sense.

I think it's a very silly notion; you really did have to dive deep for that one.

You can link YouTube videos, even as a video. I personally can't find this individual's stuff.

But to respond to things already said, there is a difference between gender and sex, gender is a social construct and sex is biology. Most people have their gender and sex line up, but not everyone, and you should respect that. This is the scientific understanding, the difference between sex and gender. The New Science of Sex and Gender

And as a currently identifying non binary person, I do believe that gender is on a spectrum, and people can be off the binary or a mix of them. I believe there can be names to prescribe how on the spectrum they are, but more sceptical of gender identity that do not do so.

Curiously she may be the only person in the world identifying her gender as "autism". If we have no idea what she means, imagine how confused she will make NTs.

Gender isn't biological, someones sex is biological...but gender is actually a social construct. It gets used interchangeably a lot but yeah technically there is nothing biological about gender.

But even so Autism is a diagnosable condition, so I find it rather insane to argue that it could be a gender.

I understand the concept of there being more to gender than just "male" and "female," and I hear that there is a higher percentage of people on the autism spectrum who do not fall into "traditional" categories of gender and sexuality than of NTs who don't, but I don't understand how autism itself can be a gender. Granted I haven't seen any videos by this person, so I don't know how they explain it. I'll look it up later, I'm interested in seeing how they explain it.

I know female autists and aspies often act differently from males, but I believe that's true the way I believe Man Flu is gender-based.
