I hope I didn't get the thread "who has it harder?" locked, in the general autism discussion forum.

I wrote the same topic some years ago and it ended up having pages of arguments, and then I was told that the mods have made this topic against the rules. I didn't want the same thing to happen again.

No criticism here,
But could a mod explain the rationale?

In L&D, threads like that often devolve into battle-of-the-sexes shitslinging, so we agreed we would close them preemptively.

Basically, this isn’t a competition, and arguing about who has it worse doesn’t help anyone.

One alternative might be to allow the threads but post a public warning to keep it civil, and then monitor the thread closely.

A warning that most people would likely neither read nor heed.

With members spread out over 16+ time zones, and new members coming on-board all the time, such a thread would require constant monitoring.  Also, allowing one "Who Has It Better" thread would likely open the floodgates on not just more "Men v. Women" threads, but more threads on "Neuro-Diverse v. Neuro-Normative", "America v. Immigrants", "Whites v. Minorities", and more.

The current policy seems to work just fine (imho).

It’s okay. Honestly I felt really awful after I posted it. I didn’t want it to blow out of proportion so I asked the mods to lock it. You didn’t get it locked I did.

You just answered your own question. The topic was already against the rules. So it would have been locked once the Mods noticed the thread regardless of what any one person posted in it.

Really, don't feel awful about something like that. It is not offensive or upsetting or even bad, it's just a type of topic that the mods get fed up with having to step in and lock.
You're cool. 8)

Not a mod, but I've seen dozens of them over the years. It's a pissing contest that always turns into a shitstorm :P

Even in the "Adult" forum? 8O
