I'm crazy... I was looking through Indeed and I saw advertised a Hawk watch internship starting next month through National Audubon! I've worked directly with raptors and also I was an educator at a hawk watch site and I had a previous National Audubon internship... plus I've read extensively about flying raptor identication... But that was years ago I worked...

Anyway my van needs a tire... But I could slap a tire on old van and head out on another adventure!

The place has free furnished housing too, but ummm would my landlord be happy about me leaving for three months even if I do pay the rent from there... Hmmm....

If you pay the rent, you can’t get evicted.....as long as you don’t sublet the apartment.

How often does the landlord actually come to your building?

I haven't seen the apartment manager since I moved in... But I have talked to him about maintenance issues.

This is a small apartment complex, and I do have relatives living here too (not bad ones btw) that could keep watch over the place I guess...

The main reason I applied is because I feel like I'm way too close to my uncle and I'm getting tired of his crap... And also I greatly enjoyed my previous raptor jobs and I even wanted to someday get my Master's in Raptor Biology, there is such a program out in Idaho... This gives me the urge to reread my raptor books...

What's sad is I still need to see a Rough-legged Hawk, one of the few American Hawks I've never seen because they don't go down to Texas where I used to work and I haven't spotted one here (a few come to Southern Michigan in winter). Rough-legged Hawk lives in the old world too where the Brits call them Rough-legged Buzzards... Several Hawks including the Red-tailed Hawk are in genus Buteo and members of that genus in the old world are called "buzzards" while Americans incorrectly call vultures buzzards!! !

Okay, enough random knowledge for now...

Random knowledge is much better than no knowledge.

Wow I was actually dreaming about this job last night.....

I have a question though... When a job post says "we encourage people of color and women to apply" does that mean they practice affirmative action? It didn't say anything about disabled though.... But I wonder if I have a greater chance...

Also it said previous experience at a Hawk watch site is preferred but not required.... I worked at one but long ago...

I was spying on their FB page today... This excites me, their facilities are completely handicap accessible, I can walk but not fast and not far... They were boasting their facilities and programs were accessible to all... Cool!

I was told by people in the field that if I can't handle field work anymore, either hawk watch counter or bird bander would be ideal because they are not as physical...

Please please please please please!! !

But my crazy family would probably try to stop it if I got it... I mean the last time I mentioned trying to find a job, my uncle got really pissed off... They see not working and living off disability, like they do, preferable to working... And I don't believe that! I know I have disabilities, but I've successfully worked in the past so what's stopping me now? It's a part time, though paid, internship, if I get it it won't disturb my disability much and my medical will be okay because of the Ticket to Work program...

But they technically can't stop me... And if they do try I'll tell my social workers...

The place where this internship is at is on the border of Connecticut and New York, north of the NYC metro area... That would be a cool place to visit!

Please please please please please!! !

The job posting they put on FB said to email them questions if we want to, so not only did I ask questions, but I emailed them examples of my past work too! I hope that was appropriate...

I don't see the option to edit the previous post do I'll post another one I guess...

Anyway I belong to a Facebook Group of Women who are involved in Raptor Research and Conservation (I guess they have a group for everything lol!)

Anyway, I also found the job posting in that group too, and I posted some questions... A lady very familiar with the place and who even knows the guy that is hiring the person for the internship said that the place is extremely easy to access... And was "swanky" lol... With Adirondack Chairs... Umm what are those lol! She told me the hiring guy that runs the place is very nice and I should directly contact him...

Adirondack chairs are wooden chairs that were used quite a bit in resorts in the Adirondack Mountains of NY State back 100 years ago or so. They are still used today.

Just Google “Adirondack chairs,” and click “images” to see one.
