In the past, a man could get a factory job right out of high school and retire from that job after 30 or 40 years. He could afford to raise a family, own a home, and receive healthcare through that job for him and his family. Today, those jobs are long gone. Now you need more than just a high school diploma in order to get by. If you were working forty or fifty years ago and going to college, you could stay at your job after you got your degree and start earning more money. Today, most jobs don't value a college degree like they used to. A degree today is worthless unless you plan on actually doing something with it or it is in something that is marketable. Most jobs want you to have a skill or experience. Even if you do land a job with a degree, that doesn't mean that you will be making more money. You hear about how a lot of millennials in America are in so much college debt and not making enough money. You hear about millions of Americans living paycheck to paycheck because their job doesn't pay enough. Back in the day, corporations valued their employees. Today, corporations are all about maximizing profits and paying their workers as little as possible. The cost of living has gone up while wages have remained stagnant. Before this pandemic hit, we kept hearing how great the economy was doing and that there were so many jobs available. There may be lots of jobs available, but that doesn't mean that they are good-paying jobs. Many of the jobs that are available are only part-time and don't pay well.

For me, finding a job and not getting made redundant has always been difficult

Not everyone finds the same thing difficult

37 years old,
AA accounting,
BA cognitive science,
Zero felony conviction
Got made redundant a lot of times
Gender Identity Disorder
Afraid of dogs
Exhausted all the time

Personality inventories kind of sound like they could be labeled as "discrimination" ten years later

Outside STEM and trades, not many introvert jobs

Restaurant retail sales office

Accounting finance

Not everyone has job skills.

Plenty of lil dips**ts I know earn enough to live without undue inconvenience. They are just as academically stupid and vocationally incompetent as me. But they are neurotypical extrovert

Survival of the fittest versus
Essential job function versus
"Discrimination"

Some lil dips**ts are just naturally more Survival of the fittest than others

That is not discrimination

Our cultural standards are fairly awful right now. So, yes, it's hard, really hard. I believe it's doable (if one has the luck or resources). I'll be trying my luck again soon.
