I dont have a lecturer for a month. A course I am paying thousands for is making my class teach themselves for one of the timed assesments. Is 1 converted to a logarithm log 10 10 or log 10 1?

log(1) = 0

3 x log(2) + 1/2 x log(16) - 1 = 0.505

(To 3 significant digits)

Next question?

This is how my classmates tried to explain it to me. I dont understand though. What is the subject, the answer or the power? I know what the answer to log(1) is. When you convert a number to a logarithm do you make it the power and subject or the answer to the power?

I worked out 3 x log(2) + 1/2 x log(16) - 1 on a calculator.

Oh ok. I think you might run into order of operations conflicts on things like this. Doing multiple functions on a calculator is always a bit dodgy.

Not really.  Just follow the Order of Precedence and use the memory functions.

I got the same answer on my Pickett slide rule.

But it has been a long day, so maybe I can no longer do brain well.

Thanks. I just typed it in. Your answer correlates with it being log 10 10 like the 2nd picture I posted.
