Is Anxiety being used as an 'excuse' ?
It annoys me a little when someone is dismissive about someone's anxiety and says ''Oh, stop being like this! , you have got to face something you are afraid of sooner or later.'' I suppose a part of that is true, because you feel better about having faced your fear and feel proud of having to overcome that fear and anxiety. I have been in situations where I have been anxious and felt as though I'm unable to leave the comfort zone, a bit like before the first lockdown ended I wouldn't leave the house due to the virus until I returned to work in June and then after a while the anxiety faded a little because I was back in the working routine again. But I seem to be feeling it again in this third lockdown because I have been off work for 3 months and returning to work in April is worrying because of the new contagious virus strains. I just think that it is unhelpful to just say ''Oh get on with it'' and be less considerate and not wanting to listen when there are people out there struggling mentally every day and that those responses by some people will change those with mental illness with the click of a finger and the problems will be gone like that.
