I read this article a few days ago and am wondering what you all think.

I would try it, but I am terribly afraid of contracting tardive dyskinesia and have expressed this aversion to my shrink. However, I am prone to tantrums when things are not going my way and believe that this may help. Opinions? Experience?

I also do not approve of a medicine that is specifically used as an atypical anti-psychotic when I am not psychotic, seeing as its main purposes are for those with schizophrenia. I am not schizophrenic.

It would be used in low doses to treat autism. But you can search(people spell it many different ways) WP and see it has helped a limited number of people. Though most suggest its side effect profile exceeds its benefits.

I would like to see some reports of person on the spectrum trying
guanfacine. I've heard good reports from users on and ADHD forum site of it treating their hyperactivity.

I find the prescription of anti-psychotic "medication" to autistic people appalling. I read that some are prescribed it as early as two years of age, tens of thousands of children across the US. Autism doesn't cause goal-driven aggressive behaviour or intentional disruption of order, so people should find workarounds that prevent the children from having these meltdowns etc, not drug them(which doesn't deal with the actual problem but simply temporarily hides the symptoms).

My Autistic borther was on Respiridone for a year and a half. It worked miricles with him.
I think it can only do good, but then that's just me.

Best of luck.

I got tardive dyskinesia from Risperidone. Lucky it went away after I stopped taking it. With some people it doesn't.
I take an antiepileptic for TLE and it has also worked wonders on stabilizing my mood.
I recommend this as it is far more subtle with less side effects.
Lamictal works well.

I had a really bad reaction to Risperdal, I became temporarily paranoid and psychotic... That was the worst weeek of my life...

I was on Risperdal a few years ago.. Got off it after 2 years of taking it.
All I remember is that I definitely wasn't being myself at all. Pretty much turned me into a zombie, that, combined with Paroxetine (another story....)

Resperdal is for psychotic symptoms. People can have two diagnoses. How specifically is it supposed to help autism?

They prescribe it as a tranquilizer. In less than two weeks, they can turn an out-of-control child into a docile zombie, but frying its brain in the long run. I definitely don't see it as helping the person, it's just something parents and doctors use as a convenience.
