Most people I know use android because Apple products are too expensive. I’m from a working class family and community.
A lot of the android users I know of are older people like me who started using android in the early days when it was the anti iPhone. When the iPhone 1st came out lots of users had problems making phone calls with them. Android phones had a lot more flexibility back then; some phones had physical keypads(I really miss those), extended batteries could be installed, & there was a lot less bloatware & more choice about the apps & settings. Unfortunately most everything that becomes very anti something eventually becomes extremely similar to the original thing & android phones are no exception to this. Android majorly lost it's way

So where does this leave turbo-nerds like my friend in Vermont, that "roots" his Android phone so he can install a non-Android Operating System on it?

He does seem to have no trouble getting chicks, though he has some issues about retention...
I really wish I could do that with my current phone but my model is next to impossible to root, there's a locking thing & the various apps cant get around it

I shoulda done a bit of research before buying it but my old phone was broken so I was in a bind & didn't really have time to research. I mostly got mine because it was the android model with the biggest screen the Verizon store had(my eyesight is not great). My girlfriend got the same model then(she was using prepaid that didn't have great service & that was a good time for her to get on my plan) but she got it because the camera was supposedly better. That was about 3 & half years ago now. We both want an upgrade due to disliking & having various issues with our phones but we're very broke(lots of debt). If I'm lucky enough to get a part time job soon & catch up on some bills for a bit, we'll upgrade after doing our research.
