I've come to the conclusion that after failing my second attempt at Weight Watchers in three months, that I'm just not ready to lose weight. If I was ready to lose the weight, than I would have lost 45 lbs, instead of gaining that amount. I think that my mum should just get used to the fact that I'm "fatter" than she would like me to be. I have more important things to worry about, than weight. I have my job, my pad to clean and chores to do at my clubhouse. I also have social events like dinners, barbeques and baseball games to attend. So what if I'm 225 lbs at 5ft 4 inches, and I look like Sid. That's the way that it is, and I don't try to look like that. I'm deciding at this very moment that I will lose weight, when I'm good and ready and that all the lectures in the world won't change my mind.

Carrying around that extra weight just isn't healthy.

Eliminate intake of simple carbohydrates. Increase intake of fibre, healthy fats, and protein. And, do an exercise every day that you like to do. Walking can be very relaxing, and give you time to be alone with your thoughts.

Whatever makes you happy Sid... pity about england V germany though, I know sid likes his football.

I'm sure when you're ready to lose the weight you'll be fine.

In the mean time how's the pad? are you caught up on your chores or just telling us all that you are? :P

You definitely have to be 'ready' to lose weight - it takes committment and it sounds like you have plenty of committemnts already.

It's a shame your mum has to make comments about it - doesn't she realise how damaging that can be to your self-confidence?

i think the right weight is the weight you feel comfortable with - just as the right clothes are clothes you like wearing.

if you are constantly thinking of how much more youd like being thinner when you see yourself in a mirror, you probably should go for it - if that is not the case, if you even dislike the feeling of less weight, you best stay as you are. its all about you cause you have to be you all day long.

My place isn't as tidy as I would like it to be, but it's not a pigsty, either.

I really don't think that she does. It's gotten to the point that I don't want to go there and visit, anymore. I go there to see my dog, anyways. I didn't go there, last weekend. I really didn't want to deal with her attitude.

I like how cuddly and huggable I look. I think that I would feel very uncomfortable being thinner, with all that male attention. I think I'm better off at the weight that I am. :P

You were on antipsychotic medication, right? From what I understand, you can really scratch any plans to lose weight while on those, need to free yourself from the medication first. I assume you've read about the effects they've got on one's appetite.

The only way I was able to lose weight was by tracking everything I ate on a spreadsheet on my Palm. But I lost weight too fast. I was doing 1800 calories, and I should have done more like 2000 (or even 2200). I ended up having to have my gall bladder removed because of it :(

Well, Luv, here's a mum's side of this ; my 44 year old son is 6ft 3in tall and now weighs over 300 pounds, which is mostly beer belly. I have told him this is hurting him, but I do try to not go on about it. He is a grown man with 6 children and a wife to care for, and if he fell over dead from a heart attack, or got diabetes, his family would suffer. I am a big health nut what with the weight training and the hiking and the calorie counting, and am hoping maybe he will just follow my example, but fat chance of that.
From people I know who have tried WeightWatchers, they don't allow enough calories for sustained compliance. Try 2000 calories a day open ended. Walk 5 miles a day. Presto, you will lose weight without starving to death, and blowing the diet.
