I've been anticipating this game for about six months or more. There are a few other "next-gen" games out there that look exciting like Assassin's Creed, SPORE and Hydrophobia. But none of them have me more excited than Bioshock. I remember playing System Shock 2 a long time ago and remember it being very different, emotionally engaging and immersive. Being System Shock 2's "spiritual successor," I have high hopes for this game.

I accept that I won't play or have the game for a year or so. I can stand the wait. I think I'm going to end up getting it on PS3 when I get one. I just hope that the PS3 will let me play the game with a keyboard/mouse combination. I would hate to play any serious first person shooter with a fracking console controller. I don't care how good the controls are.

I've looked at some of the videos on Youtube and they look really awesome. I'm surprised that the game looks as good as it does on the Xbox360. From what I know, the PS3 is quite a bit more powerful than the Xbox360, so I'm curious as to whether Bioshock will look better on the PS3, and if so, how much better.

I knew a long time ago that this would be a game that I would want to have. But I wasn't expecting it to be received by the gaming world as well as it has. It seems strange for a game this awesome to get recognized by mainstream gaming culture for how great it is.

Everything about this game seems amazing to me. Amazing graphics, amazing story and plot. Amazing relationships among the characters, amazing gameplay. It's not very linear for an FPS, which is a huge plus, since you don't see it that often in FPS games. Plus, it's just strange and creative. The artists have done an incredible job. I just can't wait to actually play the frickin thing!

I had to get a new gfx card to play these games , have upgraded my cpu a few times but still had my 6600 gfx card - I got myself an 8600 gfx card for my birthday so things at least work on something other than minimum detail now!

On to bioshock: All I can say is WOW I havent got very far in it yet but it has done a good job of creeping me out, the graphics are amazing , the vocal work is excellent , the feel of it and the details in everything are just wonderful. I actually feel bad for the little sisters when you kill their protectors .. in fact the most creepy moment Ive had in a game since system shock 2 is hearing the little sister and its guardian prowling the corridors, the splicers crawling unseen around the ceilings muttering whilst you spin round trying to find them or thinking you have got everything on a level and hearing the stomping noise and "its time for dreamtime mr bubbles".

Amazing but requires a fairly heavy PC spec. For reference I have an amd 4200 x2 processor , 2gb ram and an nvidia 8600 gfx card.

zebedee, how well does the game run on your computer? How much detail do you have? What resolution is it running at? How's the frame rate? Is it running on DirectX 10?

I think that's it for now. :)

yeah...i'm fairly certain i'll have to get a new PC to be able to play this game. i'll be upgrading to 2gigs soon for ram but my graphics card is just a geforce5700 and my processor is an amd64 3400.

not to mention i still need to free up the mandated 8 gigs....

I so wanted to play the demo but my video card doesn't have pixel shading 3.0, so the graphics don't work and the mouse cursor is invisible in the menu. So I'll play the game whenever I eventually get a new video card, but that might not be for a long time... >.<

This game looks interesting to me... what are the recommended specs?

Can you tell me how your computer runs the game zebedee? I have the same graphics card as you, it's a 256mb model though, not sure how much yours has. I've also only got 1gb of ram.

I've heard on gamespot that a P4,X1600Pro 512MB and 2GB DDR-400 can max out Bioshock @ 1024x768.

Enigmatic_Oddity,as long as you have a Decent Dual-core CPU and 2GB RAM and at least a 7600GT/8600GT,you should get high if not max on the game @ 1280x1024.

Well, it looks like the only thing I'm short on then is RAM. I might hold off on trying this, I don't think it's worth getting another 1GB just for a game.

Are you gonna be playing Crysis? World in Conflict? any other games coming out in the near future? if so a extra GB of RAM will be a good investment.

I'm not really into FPS games as much these days but for this I might have to make an exception. I will probably download the demo at least to find out what all the fuss is about. I do always enjoy a game with good attention to atmosphere / mood / and story - no matter what genre it is. From the reviews I gather that Bioshock does these things really well.

A word of warning-to NOT buy the retail PC version. It has product activation that only lets you install/reinstall the game 5 times before it becomes a toaster (originally just two times).

If you get the PC version, get it through Steam. You still have to deal with Steam, but at least it's not as bad as the retail copy's DRM.

I hope there is a Playstation 3 version-I'm guessing this is one of those timed exclusives a company pays for.

You never know how ports are going to go. The Playstation 3's more powerful, but it's also harder to code for, and plus if a game is designed around a different platform first as it was in this case that can make a difference. So far some PS3 ports have been upgrades, when they take their time (like Oblivion), but others have actually ended up worse (a lot of EA games and some Ubisoft stuff).

I'd rather get a PS3 version than a 360 one though just because the system's so much quieter and more reliable.

Or I might just bite the bullet and get it on Steam :(

It sounds like a really good game, but not as good as the hype.

why would anyone need to install it more than 5 times?

If you want to play it again, if something goes wrong with the install, if you play it on more than one system, etc. Otherwise it's just a rental (and you might as well pay less and actually rent it).
