Collie's terrible no good very bad day at work
My sister and I are both AuDHD, autistic with ADHD. I'm diagnosed, she's not... but it's pretty obvious. We both work at the same place, and today was.... severely understaffed, with customers being extra hurtful. My sister ended up having a mental breakdown on her register. So did another cashier. I was left to be the strong one, and I nearly was the third public breakdown.
Something said in the text convo between me and my sister after today:
"it's pathetic how neurotypicals only ever take us seriously if we break"
And it's true, sadly. If I speak up about being overwhelmed, I'm not believed until it affects me to the point of either public meltdown or mental breakdown.
....and those reactions have consequences. Sure, it gets me believed, but it also gets me scolded and ultimately punished.
