How many hours a day do you play video games?

Why do you like video games?

Which video games do you like?

What good and bad impacts has playing video games had on your life?

If you could not play video games, what else would you be doing?

What should you be doing instead of video games?

Most days I play zero hours video games.

I like video games but very rarely do I find a game that I can really get into and want to play a lot of. Last one was Elden Ring.

Most games now have gone too far into storytelling, endlessly interrupting gameplay for cutscenes and random "Press LB to wipe nose" sort of instructions.

Just give me two buttons, one to jump, one to hit and let me get on with it.

I'm old. I like games because they remind me of my teenage years when I was passionate about them but most modern games do nothing for me. Exceptions include Zelda 3d games (totk excepted), Elden Ring, Tony Hawk Skating games (I know, they're still modern to me), that's about it.

I do want to play that new Indiana Jones game though. I'll give it a go.

I actually get a bit sad that I don't enjoy games like I used to. I remember getting obsessed with them. It's hard to do that now.

I don't play modern video games, only online chess and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, a very old dungeon crawling game. These are free and do not require fast reflexes. I don't pay any money, ever. I like that system. With Dungeon Crawl, I can pause at any time, and I like that, too.

Good impact - I really enjoy these games. I am reasonably good at them. They allow me to escape for a bit and have pleasure and relaxation.

Bad impact - my now ex-girlfriend disapproved of such games and felt like I should be engaged in more vigorous activities (supporting her and her objectives in life). That was a difference of opinion, one of many that we had. She was highly argumentative at the best of times, it is best not to have such people in your life.

People like to say, go out and join this group or that one, socialize. I have been there and done that. What I like to do is stay at home and play my games. I am better at that, it is what I know, and what I have done all of my days on this earth, even since childhood.

I don't play everyday, but if I want to do a race it usually takes an hour or so of practise (more if I've never ran at that track before), 40 minutes for qualifying and 90 - 120 minutes for the actual race.

I like sim racing because it costs a lot less than trying to get involved in any sort of real life motorsport.

I play more in the winter months when the weather is crappy and I have less inclination to go out and do real things.

It's nice to have a new game to take you into winter. I'm very much looking forward to playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance II later in the year. I like knowing I have that waiting.

There's a game on mobile and switch called stardash that has beautiful gameboy styled graphics. Its got 3 buttons. One to walk left, one to walk right and one to jump. It does get more and more brutal the further you get into it. Its around 5 dollars too

How many hours a day do you play video games?
2 to 4 hours a day

Why do you like video games?
3d platformers in particular just feel really satisfying to engage with, it's kind of like stimming for me. And I like the stories that RPGs tell.

Which video games do you like?
Classic Nintendo games mostly, as well as arcade games.

What good and bad impacts has playing video games had on your life?
I tend to get too absorbed in gaming alot, but I do feel it's been good for my brain development

If you could not play video games, what else would you be doing?
Probably exploring the woods, I've always loved hunting for bugs outside.

What should you be doing instead of video games?
I should probably read more, and probably try to build some muscle, I'm very weak.

The average is probably a couple hours a day. I work full-time and have a somewhat long commute (10+ miles each way). This doesn't always much time for games. On days off of work, however, I can spend up to several hours playing a good game. I also watch a lot of movies, listen to music, and read. Then there are household chores and adult responsibilities and all of that. All of that competes with games, in regards to having time for things. I make at least some time for games every day though.

Video games are incredibly fun. Many games can actually give your brain a workout too and have some benefits. Not every game has to be Call of Duty or Fortnite either. While those games are popular with a lot of people, there is something out there for everyone.

I have a computer. I do not currently own a Nintendo. As a result, my favorite games are mostly what's available on PC. I like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic, Super Lucky's Tale, and other platformers. I have also played Slay the Spire, Kingdom Hearts, chess games, Palworld, Dungeons & Dragons games, Bloons, and Swords & Souls: Neverseen.

No bad impacts. If I didn't have games, I would probably read more books, or get a musical keyboard and play music.

It tends to vary based on a number of factors. On an average day when nobody I know is online then perhaps an hour or two total, enough to complete all the daily quests in my various games. If there are people I know, like my sibling, online and they want to play a game I'm often playing for significantly longer because I'll hang out and play until they're ready to call it quits for the day. The first few days after a major update (or after buying a new game) where there's new story to experience and new places to explore also sees me playing quite a bit more as well. There are also days where I don't play any video games at all though.

The simplest answer is: They're fun. The complicated answer is: I don't like all video games, not even all video games of a certain genre, just some of them. And I like the games that I like primarily because I like the story, the worldbuilding and the characters. I also quite like it when my games look good, considering that I have to look at them. And open worlds where I can explore. What I don't like is when the gameplay and mechanics gets in the way of the story.

That's kind of a really long list. Video games have been in my life for most of my life, so that list is many years in the making. Presently, the ones I play often are Genshin Impact, Fortnite, Fallout 76, VRChat, and Silksong. I don't actually like Fortnite though.
shortfatbalduglyman wrote:

That one's a bit complicated to answer. For the good things, video games provide a unique form of interactive entertainment that can't be compared to simply watching a show/film or reading a book/comic as well as a way to hang out with people I know even if they're too far away to see in person. As for the bad things... I wouldn't say that it's playing video games itself that has had any negative impacts on my life, rather it's certain decisions made by the companies that make the games and gaming systems that have had some negative impacts. I'll find games that I like, play them for years, get invested in them, and then a company makes a choice that removes the game from my life and I'm left disappointed and angry, feeling like all that time and effort was wasted. The most recent example I have of that is Mihoyo's Genshin Impact, which was released in 2020 on Windows, PS4, Android and IOS. I've played it for years on PS4, but Mihoyo recently announced they'll be dropping support for the game on PS4 completely by April for reasons that don't make sense, so, I won't be able to play it anymore. It's not really something unique to video games though. It's a normal reaction to just about anything one invests their time in suddenly being taken away or removed.
shortfatbalduglyman wrote:

Watching television, reading, listening to music, drawing, writing, sewing... I already have plenty of things that I regularly do that have nothing to do with video games. So, if I couldn't play video games I'd just be doing any of those other things.
shortfatbalduglyman wrote:

Nothing? I always make sure all my obligations and responsibilities are taken care of before having fun. There are certainly other things I could be doing instead of playing video games, but nothing that I should be doing.
