Has anyone in here ever seen the movie "Not without My Daughter"? It's based on a true story

I remember the South Park parody Not Without My Anus. It's infamous for being an April Fool's Special that pissed everyone off for not following up on the show's season one cliffhanger.

Not without my Anus? I love South Park and what year did it air?

Anyway, not "Without my Daughter" came out in 1991 and I can remember watching the trailer. Basically, it's based on a true story about an Iranian man who took her American wife and daughter to Iran for a "Two week vacation." However, he had an agenda to move them to his homeland where they were held hostage. Basically her husband started abusing the wife. So she ends up making an escape.

I've seen it. I also saw the episode of To Tell the Truth that featured the real Betty Mahmoody, which aired about the time the movie came out.

Oh I remember this! Very good but frightening as well. Some Sally Field's best work.

Her experiences in the book were even scarier in the movie.

Did this popular film spawn the even more popular movie Franchise "Taken" starring Liam Neeson?

Taken was about a girl kidnapped by human traffickers. NWMD was about a woman being forced to stay in Iran by her abusive husband.

I watched it when it first came out for rental, but it was so long ago I can barely remember it. I'm watching it again right now, thanks for the recommendation.
