Why do they call your feet soles and your hands palms

Speaking of feet, we, Poles, have just one name for fingers and toes - it's palce. A single finger/toe is palec. When you talk about a toe in Polish, you need to precise that you are talking about a foot's finger Like: palec - a finger but palec stopy is a foot's finger so just a toe

I bet it's funny to you that we have separate words for them

Quite a bit I remember I was surprised as a child when I was told by our teacher you have two separate words for those.

We have also just one single word for heaven and sky and for language and tongue. The same goes for the zipper, locker and castle - when you say the word zamek, you need to precise if you mean a castle, a zipper or a locker

Once I saw a question on some Christian, I believe, message board: "what have you done for heaven today?" I think it was a question about the members' good deeds but I needed to think a bit to guess from the context if it was heaven indeed or just the sky - the word niebo means both.

There is a species of flatfish called the sole. My dad used to fish for them.

Of course, the fluke is the duke of sole.

In my town, there is that one doctor, a shrink, whose last name if translated from Polish into English, means literally "sole"

There was a cobbler in Leicester who had a sign in his shop saying that he could save your sole and that he would even dye for you. Usually I hate promotional gimmicks, but for some reason I liked that one.

I've only got 2 soles unless you count the ones on my so-called carpet slippers. But I don't think there's a soul inside me or anybody else, because after all these thousands of years nobody's been able to demonstrate that there is such a thing, and as far as I'm concerned imagining there is one doesn't make anything easier to understand.
