What gay singers do you love? I've been listening to Death in June for a bit and I really love Douglas P. He stands out among most gay musical figures who make bland ass pop like Sam Smith and looking like a bad stereotype and failing to pull off a feminine look, Boy George actually pulled it off unlike most gay musicians nowadays. Imo Douglas is one of the most unique musicians I've come across. A true gay icon.

Me too; both for their role in the development of thrash metal, and also because Rob Halford's coming out changed how I think about homosexuality and masculinity and the relationship between the two.

If it weren't for Rob Halford I don't think I'd have been open to bands like Limp Wrist (or other "queercore" acts) as a high school kid.

I am grateful to have somewhere to put this because I've been thinking about it for the past couple of days and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

This is 東京ゲゲゲイ/ Tokyo Gegegay, a group that used to dance and do a bit of tumbling at Pride events.

These two songs I relate to:

Adolescent yearning! While excruciatingly conscious of being different! Feels like yesterday :)

I have posted this elsewhere but I find the sense of camaraderie very sweet so here it is again

But the group is better known for songs like the two below, and this is where I am unsure... it seems to me that these two songs have the theme of reclaiming or subverting stigmatising stereotypes. I am not sure how I feel about this, because I think it is a necessary reaction in cultures where heterosexuality and binary gender are strongly enforced, and I find the energy of the dancing frankly fun, but at the same time...

Here they are youkai who've taken over a school:

"My name is 'lonely'," with a warning for sexually suggestive imagery:

The translation is from here: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/tokyo-ge ... er-english

Outsider
I feel out of place
Outsider
Nowhere to feel at home
Since before birth

I've felt
I'm friendless a million times
But it'd be more painful over there

My name is Lonely

Stand up! Attention! Bow! Sit down!
Any questions? Put your hands up!
Teacher, what the heck is this for?
You're out of line
The character for people is blah-blah
Who cares!
Leave me alone, please!
Everyone, go right and left
It's not OK to be different
Swallow everything and throw stones at others
Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!
I've never asked or allowed anyone to label me
Let me take no part
And retire casually
Outsider! Aw!

They say I'm headstrong
But that's what I am
I hate being cared for

My name is Lonely

I wanna be an outsider

Masculinity
Outsider
Femininity, they're all nonsense

I've wished
I were normal 20 million times
But it'd be more boring over there

My name is Lonely

Da da da da da da da da da
Outsider
