What categories do your obsessions most typically belong to? :) Can they get classified in such a way? I mean, in my case - to show you what I mean - it is like that: those are most often: famous crimes, particular periods of history, the book/movie universes, particular fields of science like for example psychology, sexology (it was when I was a child of 7 when some of my peers still believed in storks bringing babies), all sorts of occult stuff and many others.

And what about you?

Hard to say for me, as my interests jump from one to another. My main interest is nostalgia, not sure what that would come under.

Partially tactile, visual... Something I can show, touch, own or a concept that I can do.
Like crafting. Or boxes. Or secrecy.

I don't hoard facts, items or infodump about it.
So... Definately nothing about media, "stories" like fandom, or even academic subjects unless it's something I can literally practice with my own hands.

Mostly visual, from art, painting, cinema, sculpture and interest in detail and pattern and I'm not so interested in stories/plots. Also tactile as I like materials, books, and things i can touch and move. (I like making things by hand, bookbinding, drawing and also work with small things and organising)
I also get general research interests in undergound/alt comics, manga, animation, religion and esotericism, mystical experiences, this type of thing. Interested in nature too, forests and animals.

I guess my main obsession categories are
~Specific people that I am/have been in relationships with or loved. & trying to find a relationship when I was single.
~Music.
~Playing certain video-games.
~Internet forums like this one & in the past other forums.
~Working when I was employed.
~Researching various medical & psychiatry stuff to better understand myself & manage my various mental & physical health issues/problems/disabilities.

Being someone with OCD as well as autism, I try to reserve the word obsession for the negative obsessions coming from that disorder, and the things that we autistic people, well, obsess over, are better labeled "specialized interests," even if that phrase doesn't quite capture the level of intensity we devote to these kinds of interests. Still, it's long been important to me to distinguish traits of mine that come from OCD and those that come from autism, as it's not always easy to tell the difference.

What are my specialized interests? Historical linguistics. Word origins. US electoral maps. Movies. And, uh, well--autism and OCD.

What category do these fall under? Well, one of them has to be subjects where I memorize loads of facts and statistics and info-dump them on other people even when they weren't asking. :D

^My special interests have some negative OCD components related to them that were worse before I was on OCD & anxiety medication. Basically my special interests can be harmful at times, like I'd put off doing important things because I feel a need to indulge in my interests. Or I get caught up in a minor detail about my interests that prevents me from advancing or enjoying my interests, like when playing a video-game I may spend at least a few hours redoing a difficult frustrating battle because I'm trying to get a rare dropped item :x
