Oh how I miss when the music of Bert Kaempfert, Ray Conniff, and Billy Vaughn were en vogue. For those who have never heard of them, they were recording artists (and did live concerts) of a bygone era. They may best be described as easy listening, but they were more like big bands that performed pop music of the day, often with the addition of vocalists and string sections to accompany the woodwinds and brass. Lawrence Welk and James Last also fell into this category. The origins of this format may have been Percy Faith. But wow did it sound sweet -- in my opinion. I grew up listening to that music. Where has it gone?

Interesting you should select a favorite here. I went on a serious attempt of trying to pick "the one." And although I have a special liking for Billy Vaughn, I too selected Bert Kaempfert. In fact as I am on WrongPlanet right now, I am listening to a 1979 concert of Kaempfert on YouTube.
