Hey!
I’m sure posts like this have been published in a great many number of times before, since I’m new in this forum I’ve not had the chance to be there when published.

Hence I’m curious of today, what is your(s) autistic interests? Since we seem to have interests that drives us forward.

Does this interest help you in life, give you a meaning or a goal? If yes, please tell!

I am interested in creating a company and develop my own product. Now this can be thousand things, well my special goal is to become an ed-tech or atleast in the field of technology.

My interest makes me invest in education, discipline myself and become a better human being. Without my dreams I’d be a lost man, on a wrong planet, totally lost.

Please tell me your interest, the goals and dreams that follows with it.

Dreams are what makes life worth living. Since so many of us have no friends (guilty), it seems to be exceptional at ourselves, develop necessary skills is fundamental for wanting to live. Therefore our interest(s) should be cherished, nutritioned and followed deeply.

Thanks for reading!

:)

I lost mine.
I hadn't had one for over 6 years now.

Whatever I'm having right now is more of a habit from a long term coping mechanism, neither interests nor fixation -- equally not autistic in nature. :?

I miss having special interests.
I want to go back to crafting, but couldn't.

I have enough "meta" to try and see if reviving special interets are possible, but that's for another time.

Lifelong: Racial mixes, whites who are like one-fourth or one-eighth black, skin tone comparisons ("wow, she's really dark; wait a minute, that woman's even darker!")

Lifelong: Girl name spelling variations: Lindsay or Linndzie ? "Lindsay" looks dumb. It looks like "Lind-Say." And EVERYONE spells it this way (or "Lindsey"). "Spell it like EVERYONE ELSE, will you? Show us you can't think outside the box and be original!"

Some past SPINS: wood chipper deaths, schizophrenia, mental hospitals, shark attacks, facial deformities, Nodar Kumaritashvili's death

What gets me is that so often, when I ask an autistic what their current or past spin is, they give me an answer that sounds like a regular interest, like hiking or cooking. As you can see, my interests definitely fit the bill for true spins (though a lot of NTs find shark attacks fascinating, which is why the TV show "When Sharks Attack" is very popular during "Shark Week."

Listening to lots of music & downloading & making sure it's labeled correctly. Music is a good way for me to relax & destress.

Playing older video-games. I'm very OCDish about the way I play & wanting to get everything & do everything right.

Spending lots of time with my girlfriend. It's autistic in the way me & Cass go about that. She's on the spectrum as well & our relationship is very interdependent due to both of us dealing with various issues. I'm very supportive but I'm more straightforward & direct about it than typical guys are. I tend to be kind of easy going & laid back & want to be directed. I'm not romantic but very affectionate & I like just hanging out together a lot.

Researching various mental & physical health issues & ways to better manage them. Overall I've had much better luck telling doctors what I think is going on & which treatment I want to try than simply telling them symptoms & expecting them to figure out what treatment would be best. This is especially the case with psych meds. Since I was little I've had some negative experiences with doctors where they assumed I was just being difficult & making things up or they do not take certain things seriously. I trust my own judgement aLOT more than I trust my doctors & I'm certain my current health would be a bit better if I was allowed to prescribe my own meds or if my doctors were willing to prescribe me any med I wanted to try.

I can truly relate to being connected to characters and that it helps, they can actually be like role models.

So smart and intelligent to use passion/interest and make a hobby out of it, like creating, developing one´s own ideas to real products. To make a series, video game or what ever, is not easy. Anyway I say try it! Build, create.

My reading and writing is more like what my head wants than what I want.
Not my real interest, just stimulation for the medium, maybe the human need for expression at most.

But sure, crafting; mine manifests in a sensory like sense to a point I stim on it.
And zero infodumping, to a point I could be doing a lot of work with some form of thread or other, and wouldn't know what it's even called...

My recent autistic obsessions:

  • Electronic music production, especially the sound engineering aspect with Audacity
  • Certain animals, like jumping spiders, horseshoe crabs, octopuses, and ancient proarticulata... The weirder the better.
  • Internet lolcows like Cyraxx and Daniel Larson
  • Copywriting, especially as it pertains to email marketing
  • Electronic music in the "hi-tech" genre, particularly hi-tech psytrance
