Hello all,

Today I was asked if I was working or attending school at the moment by someone. My response to that question was "not currently", do you think that was an appropriate response, and if not what do you think I should say instead?

I guess it's not really anybody's business why I'm currently unemployed but omitting that information sure makes things awkward.

Anyway, I'm interested to hear if any of you have ran into this and how you've resolved it.

Thanks,

CFL

The poster above me is correct

But also if you are looking for work I've heard the term "in between jobs" is socially acceptable but bear in mind they usually ask more questions after that.

I guess it's a no win question. Your response was totally valid though.

I've been advised to say that before but I never used that line myself. Some of my disabilities are noticeable after watching me a bit & they majorly limit me with employment options so I feel it's better to mention those specific disabilities. I'd be fired or forced to quit very fast if employers feel I'm not gonna be capable of doing the job or if they expect me to do tasks that are unsafe for me. I only mention the couple majorly limiting physical disabilities though. Potential employers do not need to know about any of my mental stuff.

There is a term called NEET which stands for "Not in Employment, Education, or Training" that's sometimes used in anime or by anime fans. It's probably best to only use that term in certain circles like with nerds/geeks/dorks or people who've been to Japan.
