Are there any thrift stores in your area that support people with ASD or other disabilities? I visited one today just outside of Jacksonville in Alantic Beach, FL and was just blown away how nice the store was and how friendly the people were. We have a few autism specific stores in Jacksonville, but this one was the easiest to get to for me.

We have a few thrift stores, but I don't think any of them support autistic people at all. And most of the stuff they sell is just junk that nobody really wants and you can't sell for 150 times the original price on Ebay.

Though not a thrift store, it's the closet to it, per your post: The Autism Community Store in Aurora, CO. They don't sell clothes, shoes, purses, hats or accessories like a thrift store would, but they sell all sorts of goodies and cool stuff that would have large appeal to autistics: kids and adults.

What exactly is an "autism thrift store"? Do you mean a thrift store that likes to hire autistic people? Or one that's owned by an autistic person?

The Autism Community store now that's something I've never heard of. My local thrift stores should be renamed to junk stores but their video ( movies, video games ), music, and book sections should have their own locations. I've bought so many good things like a Civ III game manual, books about Egypt, and like 3 video games of my interests. The staff are very, very neurodivergent friendly.

We have some regular stores with 'auti/sensory friendly hours'... aka they do realize their noise gets on people's nerves but if it bothers you, come in at some hour nobody else wants to anyway.

Bit harsh... they try... but I can't accept this as 'the world puts in an effort to accept you' (just don't be in the way).

That’s awesome. The only store I know that is Walmart, and it’s not even the whole bunch in my city it’s literally just one like right on the edge of the metropolitan area and the suburban, rural areas.

Their neurodivergent friendly hours, at this Walmart, are in the mornings and late at night. They have sensory headphones and other goodies at the entrance too. I love this Walmart.

I did notice a new Mind charity shop in town, though I've not been in yet. So I've no idea how mental health / neurodivergent-friendly the place is.

There are none in the Tampa Bay area. I did a Google maps search and the only one that did exist closed permanently. But, It shows that Orlando has one in the Edgewood area called "The Russell Home Thrift Store".

I am going to have to go check that out for sure.

Also, I figure they mean something sort of like the ARC thrift stores here but maybe with more focus on Autism specifically.

That's where I got mine from

In all seriousness there was a charity shop in my town claiming to be for the autistic kids but there was no named charity it just had stupid puzzle ribbons everywhere on the window. Also they had very little stock and it all smelled musty. It was only opened for a couple of months I don't even know if it was legit.
