Does anyone struggle with a feeling that you will pass out during an anxiety attack? I have been getting it sometimes and it's a little scary. It almost feels like you will drift out. I think the term is presyncope. Ever since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's that aspect of my anxiety has gotten worse. It's a horrible scary feeling. I have not passed out as of yet but it's a fear I have.

Thank you, Babybird :) It could be a lack of oxygen. I was reading that during anxiety your body can sometimes lower your heart rate and blood pressure and cause that feeling.

I felt like that sometimes during anxiety & panic attacks. Getting on a good psych med combo helped me a lot. Meds that helped that the most for me have been Buspar/Buspirone which is specially approved for anxiety & meant to be taken regularly long term. The other med is Inderal\Propranolol which is a med that helps regulate blood pressure & can sometimes help with the physical symtoms of anxiety. Some people faint when their anxiety majorly spikes or their faces blush turnig red & Inderal is one of the more commonly prescribed meds for that. I quit taking it a couple years ago because my doc was wanting me to be on less meds & my anxiety is still OK. I'm mentioning these meds to give ideas but individual results may vary. What I recommend is taking a proactive approach with your mental & physical health. Discuss things with a doc/psych & maybe do a little research before your appointment & before trying anything.

Thank you, Nick! I appreciate you sharing that. I am going to be potentially starting a partial hospitalization program next week for some of the anxiety. They have a Psychiatrist on staff with the program so I am hoping to look into some medication changes. I had thought about taking Buspar. A Doctor had suggested it one time but never tried it. I am currently on just a small dose of Paxil and then take Ativan as needed for anxiety attacks. I appreciate you mentioning it! I might have to give it a try.

I don't think I've had it as bad as you describe but I have certainly felt a bit faint at times when I've been overly anxious, so I don't think its unusual.

I had that during Covid, but that was mostly because part of the source of my anxiety was being unable to breathe. I don’t think I was in real danger of passing out. The mind can play tricks on a person during anxiety attacks.

Thank you for sharing! I think some of the feelings I had was during severe panic attacks along with my Hashimoto's diagnosis I got two months ago. I think most of it was probably caused by the panic disorder but I have had some dizziness at times still that might be from Hashimoto's. I appreciate you sharing your experience with me!

Thank you so much for sharing with me! I think the more severe episodes I had was during severe panic attacks where I thought I was having trouble breathing too. It's a scary feeling. The mind can definitely play tricks on you. I never realized how much physical symptoms it can cause. I appreciate you sharing your experience with me!

Yes, especially when it feels rude to leave. I can’t remember the formalities, and I can’t maintain focus, so I wring and strain my brain, trying to find the right words until it shuts down.

If you feel like you are going to pass out, hit the floor. I thought I could use the bathroom before I laid down and passed out. I hit my head really hard. I couldnt walk for a month because I hit my head so hard. I was never the same after. So if you get that feeling where you know you are going to pass out, the best tactic is to crawl to a bed.

Also my problem might have had other sources, but dehydration was an effect that I didnt realize was happening, but was severe enough that it almost killed me. So maybe checking that wouldnt be a bad idea, and to drink water between other drinks.
