Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

Forgive me for interjecting politics into this, but as Reiner had worn his liberal politics on his sleeve, I'd say the number one suspects are MAGA.

It was supposedly one of his sons.

Nick Reiner, the son of movie director Rob Reiner, has been arrested in connection with the deaths of his parents, according to two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.

The death of Rob Reiner has shocked Hollywood stars and his fans across the world. He built a huge reputation through acting in, producing and directing a string of hit movies in the 1980s and 1990s.

Nick Reiner, 32, has a long history with drug addiction, which began in his teens. He told People in an interview in 2016 that he spent periods of weeks sleeping rough on the streets and was in and out of rehab for addiction treatment that started when he was 15.

These experiences inspired the 2016 movie "Being Charlie," which was directed by Rob Reiner, co-written by Nick Reiner and featured actor Cary Elwes, famous for appearing in Reiner's classic "The Princess Bride," as the main character's father. The plot focuses on a young man struggling with addiction who has been in and out of rehab.

"Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," Nick told People at the time.

Reiner reflected on the challenges in real life and how they influenced the movie in an interview with the LA Times in 2015.

"It was very, very hard going through it the first time, with these painful and difficult highs and lows," Rob Reiner said. "And then making the movie dredged it all up again."

The protagonist of "Being Charlie" struggles to find meaning or practical help through a rehab program, and Reiner and Singer told the LA Times that this was directly inspired by how ineffective such treatments were for their son.

"When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son," Rob Reiner said.

Nick Reiner had been disruptive at a holiday party Saturday with his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, according to two people familiar with the situation, just hours before they were found dead in their Los Angeles home.

Nick Reiner, who was arrested Sunday and later booked on suspicion of murder, made other guests uncomfortable with his behavior at the holiday party, which was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, one person said. Another person said Reiner’s parents were upset and embarrassed about their son’s behavior at the party and expressed worries about his health.

The two people asked that their names be withheld because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The deaths of Rob Reiner, a legendary actor and filmmaker, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have rattled Hollywood, where the family was widely beloved. But the family’s challenges with their younger son, Nick, were also well-known, particularly his battles with drug addiction. Nick Reiner, 32, was living on and off at their home in Brentwood, one person said.

A representative for O’Brien did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It was not immediately known whether Reiner had legal representation.

The three Reiners attended O’Brien’s gathering together. One person said Nick Reiner had at least one interaction that left partygoers concerned.

He is alleged to have interrupted a conversation involving comedian Bill Hader. When Hader told him the conversation was private, the source said, Nick Reiner appeared to stand still and stare before “storming off.”

A representative for Hader did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Authorities have said they continue to investigate the circumstances of the deaths and are holding Nick Reiner without bail.

Prosecutors in California will file murder charges against Nick Reiner, the younger son of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Tuesday.

Hochman said his office is expected to file two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance alleging multiple murders Tuesday afternoon. Nick Reiner also faces a special allegation that he used a knife in the killings, Hochman told reporters.

Nick Reiner faces a maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted, he said.

"Rob Reiner was a brilliant actor and director, an iconic force in our entertainment industry for decades," Hochman said. "His wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, was an equally iconic photographer and producer."

"Their loss is beyond tragic, and we will commit ourselves to bringing their murderer to justice," he said.

Nick Reiner's attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client was not medically cleared to appear in court Tuesday. Jackson would not specify what medical issue prevented Reiner from being cleared, saying only that it was "procedural."

Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested Monday in Exposition Park near the University of Southern California and taken into custody without incident, Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton told reporters.

Nick Reiner was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

I don't know if the son was even political but yeah Reiner's death I don't believe had anything to do with politics. If I had to guess, I think Nick Reiner will likely be found incompetent to stand trial and will be institutionalized for life. Just a guess.
